Chances of getting pick 4 for Dal?

Post: # 1403935Post sainterinsydney »

I'm still trying to get my head around FA. Does precedent show that if Dal is considered Band 1 that we would get pick 4 for him? Even though the AFL public would consider it a travesty that we get pick 4 for Dal and Hawks get pick 19 for Buddy, does precedent show that the AFL would still have to give us pick 4? Also, considering the perceived shambles that the club is in, I think the AFL may be more inclined to give us pick 4.

Pick 4 is zero chance, end of first round at the absolute best.

Age is one of the factors… we have no chance of band one.

If Dal goes as a free agent, pick 23 is almost certain to be our compensation.

If he was Band One we would get pick 4.

But he wouldn't be Band One because it is based on past performance & future contract & age is a factor.

Remember BJ got a big 4 year deal and Buddy a 9. So thats the precedent for Band One.
Thomas will get a similar deal as BJ - 4 year at 700k.

Reports said Thomas only got 2.5mil over 4 years, so that's only 625,000 a year. It will be interesting if that is enough for Band 1.

I do think the fact that Hawthorn will only receive ~Pick 18 for Buddy will affect every other clubs compo. I just can't see the Saints getting Pick 4 and Hawthorn getting Pick 18, the controversy it would cause would be far too great, even if he deserved Band 1 compo.

He would be gone already if the club thought we could get pick 4.
