For he's (not) a Jolly good fellow?

Was a tad surprised we (nor any other club) didn't take Jolly in the draft this morning. Would have gone cheap, we'd have an experienced ruckman to show the younger talls (Hickey, Longer and Stanley) the ropes and potentially he could have evolved into a ruck coach for us a la Steven King a few years back.

Interested to know the main reasons why we gave the option of picking him up a swerve. The most obvious reason would be that he wouldn't be a long term acquisition. Do we now have a youth policy going in full swing much like the Stan Alves era?

I'm glad we didn't pick him up. I personally don't like him and believe if we have a good ruck coach, we simply don't need him. On a broader note to including other clubs, maybe his head is too big to be a rookie.

I recall his comments along lines of smashing Kosi in the ruck cause he's amateur etc - of course Kosi was, of course Jolly was correct .... but the way the knob said it left me thinking what an ass clown

Since getting Longer, I've warmed to the fact that we don't need Jolly.

Hickey has booked another year of development and I'd like to see Rhys Stanley pinch hit in there as well.

Sounds like he was joking about Kosi.

Kosi held his own in the ruck when Gardner went down in the drawn GF. Played pretty well actually and would have been remembered differently had we got over the line but then so would have Mini, Eddy, Peake etc etc.

Agree. We finally have rid ourselves of Kosi who was gifted 2 bonus seasons. It's now time not to carry old folks who are questionable in talent.

Mind you, we still have TDL, Sipposs & Milera who are all poor but at least are youngish and may have some value eventually.

Heard that idiot Denham have another crack at the Saints on SEN this morning.

Discussing where Jolly may end up Denham mentioned us but now said it would be Esssendon or nothing because "St Kilda stuffed up". Poor communications with his management following Watters departure apparently.

Maybe we just lost interst in him. Maybe Watters was the one pushing for him. Maybe Longer coming on board meant we no longer needed him? Who knows?

But if we "stuffed up" then I'm glad we "stuffed up". Like many others I didn't want him at Seaford.

Anyway, move on Denham

It was Weller who won out, after impressing with his application over the past three weeks while training with the Saints.

"While Maverick is a much younger player than Darren, both would have complemented needs on our playing list and ultimately we felt that Maverick suited our needs in a more immediate capacity than Darren, having brought in Hickey last year and Longer this year," Pelchen said.

Happy Saints made the call to develop the young talent. As noted by others. jolly adds little to the long term success of the club.
