Found a slide today as I was Archiving my fathers old slides. written on the slide was that it was 1st semi final 1969 vs Geelong. this is clearly wrong but it is from 1969 I would have been 3. Great to see Moorabbin packed

Hi Reggie,
It looks like you have linked to a picture on Google+. You will need to save it and post it somewhere else if we are going to see it.

Palm trees? I would have thought Junction. I may be wrong though.

Those palm trees don't look very familiar? Clearly we're playing Carlton, so must have been Princess Park if not Moorabbin? Doesn't look like there either... We didn't play finals in '69 so has to be one of those two grounds...

It may be the last H&A game of the year when we beat Geelong to make it into the Finals.
The following week we played Geelong again in the 1st Semi Final and got beaten.

Away team always wore white shorts in those days. Blues wearing white shots. Plot thickens.

Its Saints Home game - must be Junction Oval - we played finals in 1963 I think.

That's not Moorabbin- no sign of the Philip Morris factory in the background.

It's the Junction Oval, the fence is the give away.

Thanks everyone it's beyond doubt it's junction oval. All I had to go off was what was written on the slide.
Many thanks

The Junction oval, a ground we'd left by 65, why the romanticism about a ground that epitomises our failure as a club..

I hope we stay away from the dump, why should we help out cricket Vic, they may use us to help them get their centre of excellence and then make it almost impossible for us to get any value out of the dump.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The AFL and us would not be that stupid we have a good board in place and some very smart businessmen and potential sponsors involved!

I'm only guessing, but it looks like that white tower to the far right of the full photo would be the now departed Junction Hotel,
as in this 1930's photo of St Kilda Junction...

(I think I prefer the old St Kilda Junction)

It's clearly the Junction.

Good work philtee.

Great photos. I'm a bit of an old photo nerd.

And more on the Junction Hotel from this site - http://www.skhs.org.au/SKHShotels/Junction%20Hotel.htm

"The Junction was famous for always flying the St Kilda flag high when the St Kilda football team won and at half-mast when it lost."

"The hotel was ultimately demolished in 1973 following a 1970 decision to widen High Street, between the Junction and Carlisle Street.
The bulldozers that ran through its main bar, once lined with photos of local sporting heroes, ended an era in St Kilda."

Excellent photo Reggie!

And excellent photo Philtee of the old Junction Hotel.
I've not seen that one before.
(Its tower is definitely is the right location for the hotel in the Junction Oval pic. Good get!)

My only memory of the Junction Hotel is driving back from the '66 GF in the family Holden stationwagon, and seeing RW+B flags and banners flying from every window as we drove through the junction. What a sight!

I'm running an urban design competition for uni students next semester on the future redevelopment of StKilda Junction. The old Junction was great. We need to to recapture some of that greatness in any design for the future.
Any more historic photos of the Junction would be fantastic to have.
Reggie and Philtee, if you could tell me where I could source yours, that would be very useful and much appreciated.

Geelong were premiers in '63 and the Dees in '64.

For a lawyer you're pretty loose with facts!
