This was a really interesting one. Rubbish Bombers team at the time, and we were in the top four after the match - but as usual they gave us some grief and Johnson missed a gimme 20 metres out early in the last which surely would have sealed it in the wet for them. Gehrig put us in front with about nine minutes of play or thereabouts left and we held on.

2006 was a strange, strange year. For all intents and purposes it looked like it was going to be a 2005 replica, with a slow start and then a big run to the finals, but I don't think we felt like we really got going. We actually finished 14-8 in both, and our percentage would have seen us in the top 4 in the seasons either side. The top 4 fight was a logjam and going into the season you would have thought with all the younger crew a year older we might have been the best chance yet for a premiership. But a few slip-ups to WA teams at the start and end of the year ultimately ended the GT era (although you could argue we weren't going to get any better under him).

Yes, end of GT era.
Followed by the arrival of the Messiah and the rivers of gold flowed and the trophy cabinet had to be expanded!

As opposed to all those other great era's. I just wish we had the list in 2006 in the years 2009 and 10. How far would have been the only question.

Not sure how Gehrig, Hamill and others would have responded to Lyon's methods.

Pretty good I would think. Why wouldn't they?

I remember going to that game, it was a very cold and wet day! I remember going apeshit when Banger got coat-hangered.

A couple of strange things from that game.

Gehrig put us in front with over nine minutes left and there wasn't another score of any type.

All six Brownlow votes went to the losing team including one to Lovett.

Fair dinkum,
every time the wounds go to scab over somebody has to mention Judas Lyon or that woman basher mentioned above!

Ahh, 2006.

A time long ago.

A time when a player taking vitamins really meant a player taking vitamins.
