Those who are suggesting we trade one of our ruckmen

Post: # 1572716Post samuraisaint »

should have a look at Essendon. They traded Jenkins, who is now at Adelaide, because they had Bellchambers and Ryder, and now they don't have jack.
And although the second half wasn't stellar, I thought we saw enough today to give us some evidence that the club is heading in the right direction.

We won't be trading either Hickey or Longer.

If we do, Hickey's price just increased

Goldstein 39 hit outs - Hickey & Longer 21 hit outs

These 2 have a long way to go before they're more than competitive.

Goldstein's probably the standout ruckman in the competition - he's 27. Didn't play more than 13 games in a season until he was 22.

On another thread I said we needed three AFL capable ruckmen.
Holmes hopefully makes three.
I think it's developing into a solid ruck squad.

This is where I believe Holmes will eventually be the number one Ruckman. Hes got the leap to compete.(TM)
He's killing it in tbe VFL and will eventually be more than able to compete around the ground. Hickey is going to be a weapon for us in a few years. Longer may be too 1 dimensional. After the last few games I've got say my whole view on Longer and Hickey have changed.

Trading a ruckman out is fine... Just needs to be the right ones.

Carlton got rid of Jacobs to keep warnock, kruezer & Hampson.

McEvoy & Stanley were pretty bold moves, hopefully we get it right if we trade out any more.

Third. Second with us. I see him as our conventional ruckman. With Hickey the third marking option up forward who can give him a chop out, so that we don't have to play Bruce in the ruck. It also means that we can play Bruce in the backline as a swingman when necessary or required.

Has McEvoy become a better player since he left us?

This is Longers fourth year in the system not third.
The bloke is only 22. Show me a better, younger ruckman.
Grundy? Probably. Lycett? Maybe.
Longer is coming along well and Hickey showed he can do some flashy stuff and can develop consistency

I don't think McEvoy is playing particularly better

It's just that his weaknesses are better covered

Mcevoy was a gun and still is a gun. Think he was very underrated by a lot of fans.

Why cant we trade a ruckman? One in a side is fine but as someone suggested you need to have the right one.

Hickey plays as a forward, gives Longer a chop out - you do mean we keep both, don't you?

The club will be flat out just replacing the guys who haven't made it, plus retirees. Some of the recruiting really has been poor, not just under Ross, but under Scott as well. Looks like Lee and White won't make it now, and we can probably add Markworth to that list as well, which is sad for the guy, but what can you do?

Then we have a few with massive question marks next to their name as well.

Hickey played well yesterday apparently but I don't think it works most times having him as a forward and Longer rucking. The problem we have is Longer can only play ruck. I think having Hickey as mainly a forward limits out ability to play Membery or McCartin. If it was me I would play Hickey in the ruck and he would be our lone ruckman. It isn't going to happen though.

How many goals did Goldstein kick? 'Cause Hickey kicked 2.

We need to keep them both in my opinion. McCartin is going to take years, and Membery may or may not be the forward we all hope he will be.

We need to get mids and if trading a tall gets good pick we need to take it. Hickey isn't going to work up forward to often.
