Anyone else torn and wished re rotated our players more dumped the oldies. Played more kids and had a few less wins but more player development?

No! Club is developing a winning culture & there seems to be genuine excitement among the players even though we are unlikely to slip into 8th position.

13th is still a mathematical possibility.

Should have retired Fish , Dempster, Rooo, Gilbert, Geary and should have rested Seb , billings , Acres , Gresh in the seconds so they don't get tired or tackled too hard and encourage them to take up ballet instead of footy.

Yep, we should be more like Melbourne, Richmond and Carlton and go through a decade of bulls*** re-building and still end up mediocre.
I would rather develop a winning culture and game style, plus the extra wins have come off the back of REAL improvement from some of our younger guys and not on the back of the older list. Hickey, Membrey, Ross, Newnes, Webster, Roberton, Weller, Gresham, Wright. Throw in McCartin and Billings who can both play but have had injuries and the future is looking bright.

Don't see how trying to build a winning culture after the past 4-5 years of bad footy can be considered disappointing. I think the only disappointing thing is the difference between our best and worst footy (also interstate form). I do think richo has also rotated the players and has found out who is up to it and who isn't.

It seems to have been managed really well - the younger guys coming through with support from the senior players, and those guys gradually making way - as with Rooey moving up the ground. No doubt, if Carlisle had come in or if Lee had been up to it, Dempster would also have moved into a different role and maybe Fisher would have been played as a sweeper. I don't think the older players have been keeping anyone out. Rather, I think their on-field presence has been a positive - like having player-coaches out there. Time will tell of course!

I have seen way too many losses to want a reduced number of wins. Take any win - you just never know what is around the corner.

feeling a bit uncomfortable with the rising anticipation of september football. it just doesn't sit right given my years of conditioning that come september the disappointment was over for another year. pick a team to cheer on through the finals without really giving a rats if they came through. then came 91 and the extra week kind of just prolonged and intensified the disappointment. 97 was really shet. 2004/5 sucked. don't even mention 2009/10. twas a blessed relief when ross pissed off and normality resumed in 2012. was just getting comfy over the last few years and now here we are. might have to start following brisbane.

only disappointment is another wasted season .
We've seen that our best football is good enough to beat any side .
We just haven't delivered every week .

The signs look positive for next year , however each year you start on no wins and you are never really sure what lies ahead .
No one saw the performance of Freo coming this year , whose to say it wont happen to us .

Even Essendon's best footy is good enough to beat any side.

A teams best footy is no indicator to how good they are. Its how long they can play their best footy for.

And due to a number of reasons, we can't play 4 quarters of our best footy for 22 weeks. Not should we be expected to just yet.

No way. Winning is what it is all about. Also I believe in playing your best side. Anything else makes a mockery of the selection process.

I'll bet the club aren't. Is it true that all the reserved seating for tomorrow night's game is almost gone? Great news if true.

I watched a recording of Aaron Hamill on Open Mike the other day and he was talking about the noticeable difference in culture when he switched clubs, in that at Carlton they expected to win, while at St Kilda they didn't (though our side was pretty average at that point). We need to have a culture where everyone goes out expecting to win, and the best way to do that is to win a lot when the youngsters are still youngsters.

I don't entirely agree.

I think the mentality needs to be different throughout the club.

Playing group, obviously need to have a rabid 'win everything' mentality.

But the rest of the club needs to be smart about it.

Picking the 'best team' every week in order to win that specific match isn't a smart approach to building a team in my opinion. The most appropriate team should be picked each week in order to prepare us to win a flag in the future.

Same approach to recruiting. There will be recruitment decisions done for 'the now', but most will be about setting the club for a solid run at the flag at some point.

Fisher, Dempster and Gilbert should be retired for the good of out club.
