Geary out

Post: # 1630809Post supersaints »

With Geary a late withdrawal I'm a little concerned we've lost two of our three hardest bodied players versus the Swans, think we need some serious step up from others
This is about the most nervous I've been before again since the drawn grand final
If we get through this I'll be jumping hoops

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf" 

Go Sainters !!!!!

Montagna better not play bruise-free footy tonight in the backline.

I went early, but he went down into the rooms very late in the final warm up & looked ginger

I'm not sure who McKenzie is on but I reckon he's going alright.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

He's doing good so far. Needs a bit of Geary mongrel in 2nd half.

There is an article about Gears playing his role on the Saints.com site.

'Geary has thrived playing a lock down role under Alan Richardson, where his defensive oriented game meshes well the Saints array of re-bounding defenders.

"i really like the role I play. I still think I can improve my attacking style, and I'm always looking at ways to do that. I probably haven't reached my potential in that area....
But I might not have to, if we have got blokes like Savage and Roberton doing that. That's why I really like playing a team sport, because I feel like I can play to the strengths of my teammates."
"My output in terms of possessions hasn't been as high over the past couple of years, but I think in terms of the role I've been asked to do I've been really consistent this year".

IMHO........ you sure have Gears. Consistent is an understatement! Especially this season:

You've been consistent in shutting down the opponents dangerous small forwards.

You've been consistent in covering for our more 'attacking' defenders when they have left their opponents to go on the attack.....and you have covered their errors when sometimes the attack wasn't so well thought through and they have been left stranded, when the ball is on the rebound.

And you've been consistent with your kicking and decision making.......... is this because of the role you are superbly playing, you are no longer in two minds in whether you have to be the attacking small defender as well as the lock down player and linkman in the defensive back half?

So Gears, in his support role, seems to have trust and confidence in the way his younger teammates Savage, Roberton, & no doubt Webster are developing.

His leadership, endeavour, and the role he plays for the team were sadly missed against the Swans, and exposed a few chinks in the back half without him being there.
