Wooden Spoon Talk

Post: # 1723012Post David-Lee »

So...he says, if we play our cards just right we might win a 1st round, Number 1 draft pick.

There's stiff comp in the cellar but if anyone can choke, bumble and slide down the ladder whilst sucking the life out of their faithful, it's St Kilda.

Lets hope the boys keep giving their best effort...E.G. guaranteed wooden spoon.

Before you take the pass out of me like I've done the club...I may be serious . ...didn't mind getting Reiwoldt and wont mind having a shot at another potential superstar.

Season over after 6 rounds. Wouldn't be far from it - playing for nothing now.

Making up the numbers now.

Some teams will really have their way with us.

Best brace yourselves.

This club is playing for a pick one and a priority pick to boot.

I reckon we have 5-6 winnable games left. We’ll finish with no more than 7 wins and I reckon only Carlton and Brisbane will be worse off, Gold Coast maybe too.

We are in massive, massive trouble and getting a high draft pick doesn’t make me feel any better.

No pressure on Clavarino but we gave away 2018 2nd round pick for him at No 35 last year.
Then we threw in steak knives picks 58 and 61 but got Adelaides worthless 2018 4th pick in return.
305 points.
That is equivalent to throwing in a third round pick 48.
Enough to progress pick 22 up to pick 15 or 16.
Either everyone is wrong and this 2018 draft is full of cr@p or our fresh water fish failed cuisenaire in primary school.

I can't wait to see why Trout thinks Clavarino is worth a 2018 pick 15 or 16.

Not wooden spoon, Brisbane is much worse than us, but we are a bottom four contender at this rate. Not exactly the 'four' that we were told about five years ago

I dont want the spoon, but Parkey WE ARE that bad.
I am not being negative. There's plenty of hope but it lies solely in firing the entire coaching staff and 1 recruiter.

So whilst we are in the gutter why not get drunk? Let's grab the spoon and #1 and get our midfielder ....I'd love Nic Blakey but if the father son doesn't get him he will likely go with his dad to Sydney. He's a tall mid with skills and zip.

Or Zak Butters, a bit thin but a very zippy outside midfielder.

There is hope but we need to get rid of our staff who sadly cant get the job done.

Let’s be honest with ourselves...our season was over after Good Friday.
Our field kicking and accuracy are at levels I’ve never seen from our team. Not even in the 80’s were we this bad.
We won’t beat Melbourne, or anyone until after the bye.
Can’t understand how we drew with GWS!

A range of pick 1-5 is realistic

We really need 1-3 - can then trade it for 2 high picks

Agreed, put simply the rebuild just hasn't worked. The players we have drafted haven't been up to standard and the guys who should be hitting their peak now (Newnes, Ross etc) have not developed to a level that is required to be a finals team... its really as simple as that.
A combination of poor drafting, poor development and questionable coaching has put us probably in the worst position in the league, at least Carlscum have some good kids coming through. Rooey and Joey playing the last few years covered the obvious cracks that were appearing.
The worrying this is the penny hasn't dropped w Richo yet, he still believes we are a better team than what we are.

after North loss i guessed we would be 1-11, looks like I will be half a game off.
Carlton and Brisbane will make sure we don't finish last, but will be hard pressed to be much higher with competition from WB, Ess, GC, Freo.
Unfortunately we will get on a small roll after the gate is closed and turn a top 4 pick into a 7 or 8

Not negative just realist

And our genius head of recruiting, the freshwater fish traded away our 2nd and 3rd round picks in it. Outstanding!

No offence but as someone who was there for pretty much the entire '80s week in, week out that is a stupid thing to say.

Remember 1985 when we lost the first three games of the season by a combined 360 points and conceded 80+ goals, including losing to Carlton by 140 points at Moorabbin?

I rest my case...

Every year is the best draft ever...except this one is supposed to be heavily compromised by father-son and academy picks.
