Brown injury = blessing in disguise

Post: # 1732478Post skeptic »

Enter one Logan Austin.

Decent game tonight in a very undermanned backline.

I like this kid... offers a bit of drive, takes marks and gets some kicks. Definitely needs some help though and it will be good to have Carlisle/Brown back to help.
He’s a good pick up I think.

And to think... unlikely to have played a game this season if not for injury. Had to wait for Brown to go down to even get a look in.
Oh Richo...

I do not read anything that says the OP was being harsh on Brown - just that it took his injury for us to see Aussie in the team. I will be pissed if Aussie is dropped though

He was good and as suggested may have shown Richo that too conservative a selection policy is counter productive long term when there is not a lot at stake short term - i.e. odds on to lose either way. Might cost a pecking order in the draft, but.

From adversity comes opportunity. Logan has grabbed it with both hands. And we desperately need him to come from nowhere and be a player for us if the unthinkable happens and Roberton is forced into retirement.

But imagine if Roberton is cleared to play next year and we have Carlsile, Roberton, Logan, Rice, Coffield and Savage. Throw in Goddard as a bonus.

My mouth waters.

Only played 15 games too. Feel like he could be a great player, just need to pump some games into him

Conceded some goals though, but not a bad game, let's not get too carried away just yet, some positives!!!!!

Feeling a bit more up-beat with Logan genuinely landing @ Terminal 1.
No moving pictures to see what he was like over in the west but i'll try You-tube for a few highlights.
Hoping both Rice & Logan slot into being regulars for the rest of 2018.
Glad that a lot of the young fellas are getting an opportunity. :)

Yes, can get the ball and generally distributes it well. Was beaten by Kennedy, but that is no disgrace. Kennedy most likely would not have kicked 6 on Brown, but we would have had less run from the back.

It is harsh on Brown but Austin wouldnt have been played if it wasnt for his injury. I couldnt believe Richo criticised Austin after the game.

Another blessing might be Geary doing his calf - will give Rice, White & Coffield more game time.

Brown would have held Kennedy to less goals.
The number 1 job for a key back.
But Austin is a better kick and distributor, more mobile.

Goddard is now behind Carlisle, Austin, Brown and Joyce and will be behind Clavarino by next year for a tall defender role. Not sure where he fits in at the club

My feeling is that had Brown or Carlisle have played... they'd have been more suited to the stopping/defensive aspect here.

Logan actually seems a bit more suited to a 3rd tall type role. Hurt them with his run. He's more in direct competition with Carlisle then he is Brown based on style at this stage.

The point of this thread as some have pointed out is not to knock Brown who pbly would have done better on Kennedy but it's the reflection that this kid Logan can actually play and had Brown not been injured, Richo IMO is too conservative to have actually blooded him.

I'd have liked to see Austin played a few times ahead of Brown on those occasions when the opposition's tall forwards aren't as big of a worry say opposed to a team like WCE

If and when Brown is fit then it is good to have a choice of solid reliable backmen, looks like Roberton might be gone too so very important to get games into the younger backmen. Keep seeing Goddards name pop up but he doesnt seem to get a game. This may be Browns last year as well, he is getting slower.

Brown would most likely stopped as many or more goals by marking Kennedy. Logan was ok but not great let's be real. Glad he got a game but he doesn't seem to be a kdp rather a third tall as mentioned above. If gets buddy this week we will get to see how good he really is. Still young so lots to learn and wasn't out of place down back but i still prefer brown

No reason Brown couldn’t play in the same team, Carlisle could then be used as a swinger and go forward when we don’t need the 3 of them in the backline.

Not sure it was all 6, I think Webster and White shared the match up for a bit, however, I think he has a future!!!!!

So maybe, not a bad swap after all, time will tell, however, a couple of reasonable games to start his life as a Saint!!!!!

Considering our performances, it's pretty poor development that we had to wait till brown was injured.

Austin looks like the future, Brown certainly isn't and shouldn't play ahead of Austin again barring a horrendous form slump. Pure stoppers are a thing of the past and we are desperate for more skills across the board. Anyone who is a poor kick needs to be adding something spectacular to hold their place in the side.

about 4 of those goals, Logan was double-teamed- he had to compete
with both The Beard and The Whistle; couldn't win when the maggot is there as third turd up
