Eagles interested in Hickey

Post: # 1754926Post shrodes »

WEST Coast could soon be on the lookout for a new ruckman — and they have a Saints big man in their sights

And as for St Kilda, it’s the latest club to throw its hand into the ring for Giants star Dylan Shiel.

West Coast is interested in contracted St Kilda ruckman Tom Hickey, according to foxfooty.com.au senior reporter Tom Morris.

With uncertainty surrounding current ruckman Scott Lycett, who’s set to land at Port Adelaide next season, the Eagles have begun looking elsewhere for an alternative.

And Hickey, a former Sun who’s played just 79 games across eight seasons, is on the Eagles’ trade wishlist, according to Morris.
I fully expect this thread to be a bat signal for stonecold :D

I'd be happy to trade out our ruck division in favour of developing the new guys, but geez we better have a proper, developed ruckman in our sights...isn't Hickey contracted for another season? Can we put a curly wig on Longer and pull a swifty instead?

Is Hickey a better long term prospect than Marshall or Pierce?
He is better now but we were not better with Longer or Hickey than the two younger men.
If we can get a return I say go for it.

2nd rounder.

Thanks for coming.

Seriously just work on Marshall and Pearce.

Hickey and Longer combo now qualifies as cheese grater masterbation.

Hickey would benefit from a good coach- rather offload Pierce

Please let them offer a 2nd rounder or perhaps make a polite offer for Duggan, a Vic boy, leadership qualities, contracted.
Maybe Geelong or Hawthorn or Essendon will give a 3rd rounder for Longer.
We can use our fifth or sixth round pick for a U/18 or VFL ruckman as backup / development for Marshall & Pierce.
First 3 or 4 picks for midfield, speed, elite kicks.
Perhaps a dream but need to plan for post 2020, these next two seasons seem more critical than ever before in terms of development for the club and the players who don't want to throw the towel in and take control.

Me too. Pierce is the slowest player in the AFL.

I’d be interested in Hickey, too, if I was them. He’s a good player or, at worst, has the ability to be one. Easily our best ruck.

I hope we hang on to him as I think he could flourish if we show faith in him. Being considered an understudy to Billy Longer after a very good 2016 was hardly a vote of confidence.

We need picks.

Is Hick gonna win us a flag? No.

Pierce showed as much as any ruck on our list in his extremely limited game time.

I tend to agree with This. I've always rated Hickey more than Longer (that;'s just my opinion) but always tried to stay very open minded in who would take the no.1 mantle...but i just reckon that Pierce/The prospect and one of Hickey/Longer is more than enough now so happy to let either of Hickey Longer go. I think pierce has shown enough to make me think he is the most rounded ruckman we have and with more games/natural physical development can be the good solid Ruckman we need. (His running style/speed reminds me alot of Macevoy, ungainly but covers the ground effectively).

There's been a lot of posts banging on about the 'Pierce/Marshall combo' but I reckon most Saints fans see the upside for Marshall and we are excited with the skills and versatility Rowan has displayed in his limited games. With Pierce, I don't think there's that much to be excited about

I agree with you Scollop, especially your summation about Marshall. There are two reasons we get excited about Pierce and they are Hickey & Longer who have both been underwhelming and sadly take up two spots when if we could combine their better qualities, should only take up one. I believe Pierce is closer to possessing that combination.
Even the Cho wished he'd seen (perhaps remembered) Pierce earlier this season. Not a glowing endorsement for Hickey, Longer or Richo.

HIckey is easily the best ruckman on our list and we should both have another ruck in our sights (preferably Pruess or Darcy) if we are going to trade him, and we need to get something valuable in return. I'd much rather offload Longer for pick 35 than Hickey for pick 30

Best ruckman we got. Richo didnt give him a go. 2016 he was in my opinion All Australian at one point. Go injured and was never given a fair go.
