Robbo's likes and dislikes

Post: # 1794164Post saynta »

From the herald sun.

Likes:

7. JADE GRESHAM

It was a grubby game for skill, except when Gresham had the ball. A tag on him and the result could have been different. If Gresham’s not St Kilda’s best player, he’s a close second to Seb Ross, who would be probably leading the best-and-fairest. What Gresham does is explode with the ball, which makes all his teammates run.

Patrick Cripps and Jack Steele went head-to-head, but Gresham didn’t get a run-with and his 29 disposals were telling. It was the number of them and what he did with them, and that’s why he was the clear best afield.

Obviously Robbo has not watched too many St Kilda games this year

I'd say it's between Billings, Steele and Ross at the moment.

Do you get extra votes for tossing the coin? That's a bit harsh, I know, and I actually think that Seb is a good leader. He's been doing a fantastic job during the week and on the track in Gears absence.

Obviously he will also be happy to have played his role today while he's acting captain. Would love to see Seb playing in the forward line a bit and share midfield duties with others like Parker, Long and Kent.

Savage has also been quite good this year, and Dunstan when he's not playing for Sandringham.

Not much love here for Seb, but I agree with Robbo.

Seb's weakness is he will never turn onto his right foot - watch closely, when the opportunity to break down the right with a quick kick appears he always looks left first, hesitates and ends up kicking sideways or backwards. When your team runs hard to open up space and you end up missing the opportunity it leads to the long bomb into the forward line that we so despair of. He gets so much of the ball that this IS a problem.

Our best at the moment (any coach would pick these guys)- in no particular order: Marshall, Steele, Membrey, Billings, Gresham, Battle, Ross, Bruce

He could have just looked it up here.

According to the votes there, Seb is 6th or 7th after this round (judging by all the votes for Gresh who will jump up above Seb). That's a hell of a long way off 'leading the best and fairest' as Robbo claims.

Who's more likely to get it right? A cross section of votes from a variety of people who watch all Saints games each week or Robbo who will probably admit that he has not watched all games.

Well, for mine, looking at the votes here each week, clearly Robbo, who is giving an unbiased opinion, is far more likely to have gotten it right.

Clearly....

Robbo would have trouble knowing the names of more than 4 Saints players without looking at a stat sheet

Clearly, I would take his opinion on any matter pertaing to footy over yours 100% of the time.

Only a fool wouldn't.

Gresham was unbelievable vs the Blues. What a game. The sky is the limit for this kid.

Perhaps just me vs Robbo yes. He has a top job in footy journalism and I am an armchair hack, but what about a cross section of supporters who watch ALL Saints games compared to Robbo who probably doesn't

You are dismissing ALL the opinions of people who vote on the Sainsational player of the year thread

We may as well tell Sainter_Dad to just ignore everyone's votes and ask Robbo for his and just get yourself to tick off on it.

I like Robbo. Seems like a good bloke and gives balanced views on everything without the bias or baiting.

Bruce? You have to be kidding
When we needed our big Full Forwad to stand up and kick a clutch goal before half time, he delivered with a 55-60 metre bomb. He may not be as consistent as some of the mids, but that's more because of the lack of opportunities or the skills of the delivery coming inside 50 each week.

Bruce had horrid luck with injury last year but he is a vital cog if we are going to play finals. He smashes packs and creates opportunities. Membrey doesn't. They also play different roles but Bruce also gets the number 1 defender each week.

Last week he was probably one of our best in a losing side. How many hacks get best on ground votes? Bruce has this year and in previous years
