Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
I've never even seen Carlisle take a contested mark or lead for the ball while he has played for us, yet we constantly throw him forward late in games to try and kick a match winning goal. Wasn't that one of the reasons he left Essendon? He didn't want to play in that position. We have a natural forward in Battle who is a fantastic shot at goal and instead we have him hidden away in defence??

I think he was put down there to learn first hand how a big defender should play. I hope he got Levi's autograph.

He doesn’t look comfortable up there but the coach was right to have a go at it as Bruce was never going to outmark Casboult today. I’d prefer to try Battle up there.

Just coming back from game.
I am really of the opinion we are better off trading Jake.
He is phoning in his performances.
Lazy, and sometimes insipid. Ok in defence because he reads the ball so well, but as soon as he goes forward you see how little effort he gives.

Pretty certain he was moved forward because he was having little impact down back

Richi had never dropped any of the senior blokes prior to this year

Ok in defence when he chooses to have a go, but his attitude is poison. Swap him for Stewart from Geelong or an injured Rance....or..... Just wishful thinking!fugazi wrote: ↑Sat 17 Aug 2019 5:44pm Just coming back from game.

Re: Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
Carlisle was absolutely dreadful in attack today. He was a liability every time he went near it.
I’ve lost confidence in him. His ability to make errors is heartbreaking.
Should never, ever leave defence. He’s got one trick - a big spoil. He played a decent Qtr against Freo and that’s about it for a while now.
Genuinely looked incapable of turning the game at precisely the moment we needed him to.

Re: Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
Carlisle is a back and when he is playing well he is amazing but today he had an off day as did about half the team. Trading him would be stupid. Ratts shoudl ahve a year with him at least

Re: Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
If it was a crime scene, his DNA was all over it.
That said, Ratten would rather his time again as would many of the players. What I find galling is that 1st & 2nd year players show more heart & willingness for a contest. We are devoid of a genuine leadership group on field.
This is failure to develop and encourage leaders. Something that cannot be addressed in 5 weeks.

Re: Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
Totally agree. People are just assuming that he is super lazy - he is returning from back surgery - only a few months ago!DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Sat 17 Aug 2019 8:48pm Carlisle is a back and when he is playing well he is amazing but today he had an off day as did about half the team. Of course he is immobile and struggles to bend for the ball. He should not even be out there - he should be helping himself to recover. I bet that next year he is great and playing unhampered he will surprise many.
I just cannot stress how woefully immobile I was after I returned to life after MINOR back surgery. There is some pain I wouldn't wish on anybody.

Then why the hell has been out there for 9 games this year

He has always been lazy... just a lot easier to get away with it, if you’re playing as a seventh.

Will cut him some slack until next season. Hopefully he returns to his 2017 form when he was a gun.

We weren't hitting the scoreboard. Bruce was being well held. You have to try something.
Other options: Swing Battle forward. Put Carlisle in ruck and swing Marshall forward.

Did this change the game allowing McKay to dominate the last quarter?
Could be the move that dictated the result...

Re: Why are we continually trying Carlisle forward?
We had Lonie, Long, Steven and Hind
Casboult took how many marks?
We played poorly today including because we did not respect our selections (and therefore the game plan)
Injury has also dictated
Put King, Gresham and Coffield into that side today which changes the structure, the game plan and the class on the park
They had injuries as well but they had far superior back ups to us where it counted
