I seriously thought Ross Lyon told him at quarter time he was almost done at the club. He was a 1000% better player after quarter time, and was clearly best on ground.

Where did McQualter get the reputation that he couldn't kick. Clinton Jones can't kick - they go everywhere. McQualter simply can't drill someone like a Brendan Goddard or Nick Dal Santo, but then, very few can. McQualter can hit a target.

McQualter named in the forward pocket has me thinking he may be playing a pressure small forward role. He is a very reliable kick for goal. Gwilt is there in case Gilbert has to go back. I really think Gwilt's best role is medium sized forward, but I really think he needs to realise how strong he is...

York Park was never the right move for St Kilda on-field. It is for Hawthorn, because there is no real adjustment between the MCG and York Park. While I believe that our results are somewhat coloured by Mark Williams' ability to coach well against us (watch us start to smack Port when they give him ...

I saw nothing on Saturday night that would indicate we will have any trouble beating Brisbane in Round 9. They only have Merrett to come back into their KPDs, while Kosi and Riewoldt didn't play. No Hayes in the guts (or Montagna, Baker or Armitage for that matter), and no Maxy or Bakes down back. W...

I know it is difficult, especially without our spiritual leader HD, but we need some coordination of on-field roles. Happy to do a half down back, but I like to have a run up the field a bit too. I know we have many players who would normally play at various levels, but we need to have some sort of ...

As usual, I had a great time and it was great fun running around with the blokes.

Hopefully we've worn one for the AFL boys, and we will be avenged the day after Mother's Day.

The McFarlane story appeared last year. He went out and found (almost) everyone who played with Banger in his first game. But rather than look through the old copies of the Sun they must have at Southbank, he googled it, found my attempt at putting the team together (I had the 20 from stats.rleague....

I must stress that the positions are my attempt at putting them into a team, but the last time I did that Glenn McFarlane pinched them for his Herald-Sun article about Banger's first game. St Kilda just name 29 players, of which three will be omitted, and two will be named as substitutes. Goddard pl...

NAB Cup v Brisbane - Squad

Here's the squad, which I've had a crack at putting into a conventional team line-up. Three players to be omitted, two to be named substitutes. Plugger had his best season wearing #4 - 1991. He was also handy in 1992. Joel Smith was given #4 right away, and Thompson after two seasons. I just think giving it to someone who we rate, but hasn't quite made it yet (Gilbert, Armitage, Eddy, Jones or Geary) would have been good. Now, in this day a...

I think that players of the ilk of Sam Gilbert, David Armitage, Clinton Jones, Robert Eddy, Jarryd Allen, Jarryn Geary & Jack Steven would have all been keeping an eye on those numbers. I can understand keeping #4 vacant for a year, and #35 is a high number so we can keep that vacant for a while...

The free rookie elevation mid-season could be a huge plus. Remember also that Dawson played most of the year last year alternating between the ruck and full-forward. While I think St Kilda will use him primarily as a KPD (to see what he has before becoming back-up for Sam Gilbert who is Max's long-t...
