Re: Mason Wood vs Jack Newnes on the wing..
Here's the thing about players like Wood, he makes mistakes and he's not a flag type player, he's a role player, he's a depth player but if he doesn't play last night and a skinny kid who's not up to it plays...we lose. Now that may upset the supporters who believe losing is better as long as you p...

Re: Illogical to sack the coach
This year is getting a whiff of 2017 about it. The coach overachieved in the first half of rhe season, so we rush into reappointment discussions with him. No sooner does this mentality develop, then the senior players go on auto pilot and think they have been doing enough. Mediocrity soon spreads th...

Re: The Saints Will Win a Flag.....
After Friday night's pathetic capitulation to a bottom side, we should be no better than even money to beat the Eagles and Hawks with all other games being certain losses. That will make for another 10 win/10th place season of mediocrity. I'm seriously considering moving to the Gold Coast and suppor...

In: Windhager, for Clark. Campbell for Marshall. Lienert for Paton. Sharman for Butler.

Re: Sam Fisher story in Herald Sun
David Parkin was right years ago when he said that good footballers got to where they are in the game by taking risks and that ability alone wasn't enough to succeed. Once they leave the game, the risk-taking behaviour that got the most out of their ability needs to be channelled in the the right di...

Re: VFL R9 Carlton v Sandy
I don't understand all of the criticism of Allison.
He looks like a versatile prospect forward or back.
He has taken a couple of great contested marks ala Sharman and could have kicked 4-5 goals so far.

Re: Sliding doors. Can one be All Australian without being classed as elite
Funny what qualifies as elite. When I watched us lose unexpectedly to the Dees in the first round of 2017 I looked at who in our team stood out as potential elite game-changing forwards. Number 12 and number 22 stood out like no others. Gresham in his second season and Riewoldt in his last were a cl...

Re: Do we need to talk about Cooper?
He just needs to put on 5kg like King.
He will make it based on natural ability.
Others are ahead of him.
Hayes is not like for like for Sharman.
Resting rucks and Membrey are better right now.

Re: 10 In a Row!
Oops I just double checked the quarter by quarter scores and you're right St.Peter.
I should never have questioned your stats, especially at Easter!
Our second halfs have been strong so far, even in the Pies game, despite poor goalkicking then.

Re: 10 In a Row!
The Saints have now won their last 10 quarters! I am not sure of previous stats but I think it would be a long time since we have done this. We lost the second quarter to the Suns by two points, but would have won it if King and Membrey had kicked their easy set shot snaps. TBH I was underwhelmed b...

Re: Draw flatters us
Don’t get me wrong love winning and like the way we’ve gone about it playing some kids but just looking at this years draw has me nervous. Last year we battled injuries and fitness - think we’ve fixed fitness and it’s clear we are running out games. But this AFL fixture is so lopsided it’s making a...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
King Bear in the square = ineffective On the move Unstoppable I think King is better suited to CHF and snagging them from the arc. I'm not sure that Jack Hayes is mobile enough to cut it at this level, despite his first round heroics, but he is handy marking depth up forward. We should rotate our r...

Re: Tim Watson said seven starting Saints are missing vs Pies. Who are they?
Harsh critique I assume for the article… Hannebery (lol) Coffield Geary? Coffield's form last year does not warrant selection. Geary and Hanneberry's bodies prevent them from being automatic starters who get plenty of game time, particularly Hanneberry. Both of them, plus Ryder and Ross are on thei...

Tim Watson said seven starting Saints are missing vs Pies. Who are they?
Jones, Clark, Billings, Ryder, that's as far as I can stretch his comment. Jones and Ryder are locks, but also regularly injured. Billings and Clark are borderline starters IMHO, particulatly Clark, neither of them are game changers. Who else have I overlooked? Who are the other three missing starte...

Tony74 - do you know why our lovely Georgia is taking time off? Any light at the end of the tunnel? You were joking there, surely? No, not really. It could be something simple that could be alluded to. Like a personal problem or a family crisis. She is a special player and I was hoping that she did...

Not sure Richo ever had anything to genuinely smile about after he got the coaching gig with us to be fair to him! Re: The spitter
What about The swallower, is he a backman. No he's a midfielder who pushes hard backward to use his elite second-to-the-ball defending and ball-losing ability, while a half back pushes up hard into the midfield. Our best potential swallower is probably Ross, with Clark pushing through the midfield ...

Re: Team v Dockers
If Lonie has kicked less goals than games played then that record is poor for a midfielder, let alone a specialist forward pocket. I'm sure that he has had at least twice as many shots at goal as games played, but usually from the left forward pocket, where his opponents hem him in, knowing that he ...
