Gilbert on Goodes.

Post: # 1122216Post Sobraz »

Should be the match up IMO...

I am a big fan of Gilbo, and shudder at any trade talk that has been thrown around the last few months..

I feel he is an essential cog in our core of young senior players going forward..

However, it is obvious that his form and confidence is shot... He has a game here and there where it seems he's got his mojo back, only to follow it up the following week with another howler...

We need him at his running, aggressive, strong marking, long kicking best if we are to do any damage this year, and more importantly re-load for a real crack in 2012...

Goodes is in hot form at the moment... Carrying a Sydney team that looks flat and a little low on the skills side of the ledger... He is their shining light, and a true champion of the competition..

Normally, Blake would be the match-up, but it seems that there is no room for Blake along with Zac in the side, and Gilbo seems the right phycial and skill-set fit for me..

I remember he did a very decent job on Judd against the Blues earlier this year, and if anything he is probably more suited to Goodes than Judd, so it could do him the world of good to follow him around, give him a job, and maybe claim a big scalp...

If he were to play on Goodes and beat him, we'd have Sydney covered, no doubt, and assure our finals spot...

Thoughts?

I know its hard to believe but at full pace he DID NOT MISS a target. Had lots of support and encouragement from the team too.

I like the idea, but I reckon Fisher may get Goodes...similar matchup to Pavlich?

Pretty much a certainty. He'll go to him or Ryan O'Keefe.

I agree with the original post.

Gilbert to Goodes.
Jones to Hannebery.
Dempster to O'Keefe.

Blake has a good record matching up on Goodes, doesn't he??

On paper, is probably the best match-up on Goodes in the league, with a good engine, reasonable pace, OK in the air and is very diciplined. Be interesting to see if he is kept in the side for this specific role.

Fisher's strength and experience looks a better match-up on Goodes, to me.

Doubt Gilbert will go to Goodes or if he does it wont be when he is on the ball. Couldnt have a midfield of Gilbert, CJ and one other. We wouldnt want to get the ball. Fisher could run with him i would think.

Fisher is so versatile that he could follow Goodes around a bit, zone off and play tight defensively when necessary.

Fisher to Goodes I think - no matter where he lines up.
2nd choice Dempster...

It is almost as though we should get a "D #" basketball-style chant going at Sainters games

It's fantastic that we have such a reliable group of defenders and have the luxury of deciding who to play on opposition key forwards.

If our midfield and offense can deliver in the same way as our defense has, the Swans will have to give one of their best efforts they have produced since Roos was coaching them in their prime to overcome us, IMO.

Whether Goodes has to deal with Gibert or Dempster, either way, he sure as hell will not be thinking that he has an easy task ahead of him.

God no. Let's all be realistic here. Just because he played loose as bejesus a weeks ago and racked up 25 touches he still looked shaky as hell when one on one/when pressure was on. Typical Blake.

He was the sub last week after his 'amazing' effort the previous week. That should say something...

P.S I admire him however I like to think I am fair in my assessment.

Fisher.....very much like he has beaten pavlich twice

He also exposes oppents the other way as pavlich/goodes have poor defensive games

Fisher hasn't played that well on Goodes from recent memory.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.
