I always love seeing Ross.

When asked at the end who he was most excited about of the young bunch, he said Ledger, Siposs and Cripps.

I can't wait to see Ledger again, something about him just jumps out at you, just has something special, not sure what. Crock was looking alright too.

Just saw the interview over a bit of lunch - 10/10 to Ross. We have a very composed, professional coach.

From the way that he speaks about the question of coaching "offers," I can't see him wanting to move on . At his level, it's not about the money anymore - it's the "fit" that counts. I would be very surprised if we don't see a contract extension announced before Xmas.

From a family move perspective, I doubt whether Adelaide would be in the mix. Melbourne have far too many internal problems. Carlton want Malthouse. The Dogs have virtually annointed Leon Cameron.

Exactly. The chances of Lyon moving clubs within the next two years are virtually zero, yet incredibly there's another thread alive and well on the likelihood of him being tempted by a Melbourne offer.

Entertainment all round

Also the second time in recent weeks that he's mentioned Richard Colless, obviously very grateful for that mentoring relationship now that he's putting some of the advice in train.

Yeah that was good to hear. Personally the only time I've seen Stanley do anything was v Collingwood in that NAB Cup game, so it was pleasing that Ross talked him up.

Interesting...still reckon Melbourne/G Lyon clearly lurking. They want a senior coach aka Malthouse or Lyon and they will pay overs to get it.

I thought Lyons recent comments about setting up the club for the future so it wouldnt be about any individual was interesting.........was he saying he's got Pelchen in, he'll assist with getting the "strategy" in place and just maybe do an exit stage left??

Hmm..i do hope not.

hope ure right.

Caro just loaded up on FC and said Ross has been good for Saints....but equally St Kilda have been good for Ross Lyon and that he should come out prior to finals and re committ....

would be a fair kick along for our club before finals that hes in for the long haul..

I've got a bad feeling. The journos knew we wanted to re-sign him ages ago.

Then knew it stalled.

If they were confident, Caro wouldn't be as pointed. There's obviously some down in the media if you look hard enough. These people have sources, club, coach, managers. They do have an idea at times even if we don't think so.

I hope he stays.

Given Ross' posture towards the media he would be very careful about what gets circulated even within his personal network. I reckon they have about as much idea as we do, or less...

All that matters is that internally the club is convinced he's in for the long haul. I thought Lenny's reaction said it all - and that's about as close as we or the journos will get for now.

I don't quite understand the anxiety around this, he has another entire year to go on his contract, if a 1 year contract isn't binding then why would a 5 year contract be any more binding?

In some ways I think StKilda would be a safer club to be, as most of the admin and supporters are expecting a slide down the ladder and rebuild over the next 5-6 years, whereas Melbourne are expected to climb the ladder. If the Dees are still hovering around 7th-11th in 3 years time (which is very likely) the coach will be sacked again, 5 year contract or not…
