Where's our backup ruckman going to come from?

Post: # 1162608Post WinnersOnly »

Where's our backup ruckman going to come from?

I wonder what Pelchen/Elshaugh have in mind?

If they thought Stanley was up to it I hardly think they would be saying they are looking for a ruckman?

Hopefully there is a mature aged ruckman running around in one of the minor leagues they have chosen.

I had read that the Cats a likely to delist Mark BLAKE this year so perhaps he would a cheap pick up. At least he wins his share of tap outs.

It will be interesting as finally the SAINTS seem to have their drafting/trading organised !

SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

I really like Zac Clarke...wouldn't be hard to convince him he'd struggle to get a game with Ross?

Kosi.

Macca first ruck, Kosi as second ruck, T.Walsh at FF (if he stays :?)

Problem solved! :D

If Macca or Kosi get injured we have Stanley

or.......

solution #2 - http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/artic ... is-coming/

If our list management wasn't in such disarray, we might have been able to done a straight swap, Lynch for Maric. Mark Blake I can not abide by.

Agree, he has to start playing, same goes for Winmar. If they are not up to it, we need to find out and move on.

Unfortunately we can't wait until Stanley gets to 25 to find out if he can play.

He was given a good go last year and didnt do much at all. He was injured and also out of form this year and as such struggled badly. This is one guy that got a go.

But at the same time, was it totally unexpected that he didnt shine? Obviously there is talent there, but it is very raw.

As Plugger said, injuries ruined him this year, meaning he couldnt get any run of form in the VFL to push for seniors. In fact, he even got a game early when there was no form line to go on.

I'd say he will get games this year, but at his size games probably shouldn't and won't be gifted to him. He needs a good pre-season in the gym and then we'll see where he goes from there. Definitely has the talent to make it, but needs a frame capable of producing at AFL level.

Didnt he miss a pre-season and then 10 weeks with back to back hamstrings....later in the season

Seems a reasonable excuse for struggling....he would have played less than 8 at Sandy and 1 in the seniors????
His spent more time at training in the rehab group than in the main group..

He got a large opportunity in 2010 (riewoldt injured) and most would agree that he showed plenty as a 20yo 201cm player in that period

in 2009 he was the surprise packet at Sandy....often outshining McEvoy...even though a year younger...

expect stanley to be a big mover in 2012....he has a big upside

+1 Reckon he will be given the chance to shine next year if he's over the injuries and can keep fit , would of thought this year was wrecked by injuries coming at bad times and not sure he was fit enough when he was given a game...To say he was one guy who got a go as said previously ( by others )would be very short sighted...
2012 the year of OPPORTUNITY !!!!!!

He did get a go though. I certainly wasnt writing him off because of his first year. I have always been someone who thinks he can play. I was just saying he wasnt like Walsh and a couple of others who people say didnt get a go.

First senior year. Just a question. Do you read or just answer what you think has been written? Proves what I thought.

Ruckmen available in the Draft.

Billy Longer (202cm ruckman - Northern Knights)
Todd Elton (197cm forward -ruck. Dandenong)

Myles Bolger (201cm ruckman - South Fremantle)

Tom Downie (205cm ruckman - North Ballarat)
Chad Sandilands (204cm ruckman - East Fremantle) the little brother.
Leif Cope (205cm ruckman - Eastern Ranges)
Ben Brown (198cm ruckman - Glenorchy)
Fletcher Roberts (VIC –197cm KPF/Ruck)
Mitch Brewer (QLD –204cm 119kg Ruck)

And there were others invited to the dract combine.
All is not lost. We can pick up a couple of good youngsters maybe.

Back on Topic;

We probably need to pick a ruckman somewhere this year (Draft or Rookie Draft).

Leif Cope from Eastern Rangers might be an option. Played as an "over-age" this year. 206cm and only been playing footy for about 4-5 years. Comes from a basketball background. Flexable enough to fit in the drivers seat of a Lancer !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I find the ruck situation a real problem for us. Was surprised we got two smalls. Understand we need speed (desperately), but we need minimum one more ruckman. If Macca gets injured, we are screwed.

That Fletcher Roberts sounds promising. He kicked 5 goals in the Grand Final including 3 in the last quarter to win the game.

To small to be a ruckman in the AFL.

Same size as Kosi. Can be used as 2nd Ruck, giving Ben a spell.

Yeh he is pretty light. Todd Elton a bigger unit for that height. But he is expected to go too early for us. I would'nt want to use our lst draft pick for a second ruckman.
