the Watters Approach
http://www.saints.com.au/news/newsartic ... fault.aspx
Looking forward, we want to build really strong relationships with our supporter base, we want to make sure our links with the community are really strong and vibrant, and we want to make sure our media relations are really open and transparent," Watters said on Sunday.

"We want to be connected to the broader football industry and I think our players are looking forward to that opportunity.

"We want to be a part of the bigger picture so does the bubble exist anymore? Did it ever exist? It's not something that's in my train of thought going forward.

http://www.sen.com.au/display-article/S ... Cats/34165
"Initially it came obviously as a surprise to everyone and to different guys that have been out of contract I suppose there was a period of being in limbo," said Riewoldt.

"But now that we do have a senior coach and the direction is clear I think everyone has pretty quickly shifted into a phase of excitement and what the next few years hold."

"It might have been tough for a little period there, just the uncertainty, but it was important that the club took their time and made the right decision and they've obviously done that."

Saints needed a change
11.46AM 16-10-2011
New St Kilda coach Scott Watters believes his players were ready for a change after five years under Ross Lyon.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Watters said the recurring theme from his brief contact with several Saints since his appointment late on Saturday is that they're looking forward to a new challenge.

"Already from conversations with players you can see in person's eye where the drive is, where the commitment is and where the motivation is," the 42-year-old said.

"I think this group may be ready for a change, not being disrespectful to what's gone before."

"But change does open up chances and opportunity for different players."

Just seen the clip - the new coach seems OK and Rooey seemed happy and ready-to-go.
Let's get behind the club - it's been a pretty tough year.
GO SAINTS!! :D

Out of the bubble and mature enough to deal with the football world.

The evolution of this football club from the bitter-us-against-you approach to being big enough and strong enough to handle issues and problems is way overdue.

No doubt Watters has seen this from afar. Brilliant decision to stamp this philosophy from day one.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Am I missing something here with Jeld Wen. Don't they throw in enough cash now to even make it on the sponsor's board. They are not even on Roo's top.

Weren't they once our major sponsor?? I knew they weren't now, but thought they would at least make the board.

have graually reduced their sponsorship( as much to do with Sad American economic situation as the saints situation.
but looks like have continued to date as Coaches sponsor- hence on Scott's top.

I for one want to thank this board and the selection panel for refusing to be hassled or distracted by the hysterics from the media and simply got on with the task in hand! Well done!!!

This is very true. It would be intersting to know if he made that clear during the interview process, I hope so

I believe I read somewhere that one of the factors/criteria the panel was considering was the media and promotion of the club

So we've got a coach with the salesmanship of GT and the footy smarts of Lyin.

Well, that's my take!

Bloody hell, how good would that be!

It's only early days but there's no doubt he's made a great early impression.

I think it's fair to say this bloke has the support of the fans. Go make it happen, Scotty.

First impression of Lyon?

Last impression of Lyon...

A lying, gumby bogan.

my impressions were that i felt at the time he was being very cautious in what he said based on the fact that GT was loved by most of the players.

i have a vague memory that it took him quite while to say we, us, our club.

thats all i remember.

Catching what you're throwing here.

My comment was an initial observation of Lyon from the get go and was hoping that he would loosen up a bit more and improve his demeanour but looking back I don't think he changed much at all really.
