Expect lean home gate takings in 2012

Post: # 1184117Post Rosco »

was just having a look at our fixture for 2012 to see what games I can get to (night games suit me better), and we are going to be making bugger all from a lot of these. Check this out for home games:

Rd 2 - GC (lucky it's our first game in Vic, but will we get 25k there?)
Rd 4 - Freo (ok, this might draw a few...)
Rd 6 - Haw (ok, at MCG)
Rd 7 - Carl (ok)
Rd 9 - Syd (tumbleweeds)
Rd 10 - Rich (tumbleweeds unless they start the year well)
Rd 14 - North (tumbleweeds)
Rd 15 - Ess (ok)
Rd 18 - WB (could be pretty slow)
Rd 20 - Melb (MCG, tumbleweeds)
Rd 22 - GWS (tumbleweeds)

a saving grace is no port or adelaide at home in 2012

looks like the AFL will be writing us another cheque next year...

We just need to be winning - supporters and sponsorship follow.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Don't overestimate the crowd for the Gold Coast game.

It's a Sunday Twilight game on EASTER SUNDAY.

We'll be lucky to get 15,000 to that game.

Stadium deal compo

We'll get a good crowd at the rich game.

Definition of okay is a bit harsh.

My take

Rd 2 - GC (20k+) - loss
Rd 4 - Freo (35k+) -slight profit
Rd 6 - Haw (40k+, at MCG)- big profit
Rd 7 - Carl (35k+)- Slight profit
Rd 9 - Syd (30k)- breakeven
Rd 10 - Rich (30k+) -breakeven at worst
Rd 14 - North (25k+)- loss
Rd 15 - Ess (35k+) - slight profit
Rd 18 - WB (30k+)- breakeven at worst
Rd 20 - Melb (MCG, 30k+, finals nearing)- Profit
Rd 22 - GWS (20k)- loss

3 losses and a few big games.

Only shame is no home game against the pies or cats. (from a financial perspective)

*equalisation*

translation - we know you're getting a raw fixture and a bad stadium deal and it looks like you can't srand on your own so here's a bunch of cash because it's easier than dealing with etihad stadium and we can still have our two blockbusters per year between carl/coll/ess/haw/etc to make us look disproportionally successful and guve ourselves fat bonuses

or

we know we can't make the fixture truly equal without 34 home and away rounds so rather than make it as even as we can we make it as profitable as we can and give cash to the teams that we disadvantage (works on a cash basis, but not a competition basis)

The fact it's the first chance for Melb fans to get along v GC won't up the numbers?

Carlton fans will go to any game same with Essendon. Richmond fans are stupidly loyal and will be there in numbers. Most Dons games sell out at the dome. We paid to get into the Dons home game this year and had to stand in general admission because everything together was sold out.

5 games you wouldn't want to miss:
ROUND 2 vs Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium
- first home game of the year, new coach, new players, new tactics
ROUND 4 vs Fremantle at Etihad Stadium
- this would have to be our biggest game of the h&a season. Saints vs Lyon & Dawson. Should be a very brutal battle.
ROUND 7 vs Carlton at Etihad Stadium
- Who doesn't like beating the blues?
ROUND 15 vs Essendon at Etihad Stadium
- Can we finally beat Essendon?
ROUND 19 vs Collingwood at MCG
- its Collingwood...

I suppose you either get ordinary sides and ordinary returns or get the best sides and maybe lose. I chose ordinary sides and hopefully a win.
