Kosi and family- article

He love for football means he hopes to remain in the sport in some capacity, while he has a strong interest in selling heavy machinery, having dabbled in the role years ago with leading firm Williams Adams.

"I fit well with the blue-collar workers. There is always that common interest, driving machinery on the farm and then jumping up in the big truck, you feel like a big kid really," he said.

Then with a smile he adds: "I get yelled at training because I am watching the D9s (bulldozers) doing the freeway (next to the club's headquarters in Seaford). I just want to jump in one of them, how cool would that be?" For the time being though, there's hopefully that elusive premiership to chase and share with the likes of great mates Nick Riewoldt, Nick Dal Santo, Joe Montagna, Lenny Hayes and Schneider.

"There is only one reason why I am playing and that is exactly that," he said. "There is one reason you turn up to training. There is one reason you go through the pre-season. All personal goals are just irrelevant now.

"I wish I had that sort of outlook early on in my career but as you get closer, and I suppose you miss out, you get that appreciation for how hard it is to do and all personal stuff is put aside.

Thanks for posting this...awesome article!

He also speaks with genuine affection for the Saints, a "family" he says he has never contemplated leaving.

"No, not really. It's never really popped up. I love the St Kilda family," he said.

"The supporters, they are just as loyal and resilient as anybody you will see. I really feel humbled to be a part of it. I know premiership wise it's not a successful club but it's a very old, 100-year plus, club that is just resilient and keeps going and going and going. No matter what happens the St Kilda family just seems to bond together and keep going."

Congrats on the marriage Kosi.

Not impressed with your take on your career:

The expectation is that Koschitzke, for all his athletic prowess and talent, should have achieved greater personal success and more top 10 finishes in the best and fairest. He has only the one, a ninth placing in his first year in 2001.
The man himself has heard all the talk but says he is more than happy with how his career has panned out.
"It's funny, because the expectation that everybody speaks about, I think it's not my problem. It's everybody else's problem," he said.
"I think I have got what I need to out of my body and my footy ability. It's not really my problem. I am not fussed about it.

An under achiever who thinks he's done alright. If you've got what you need to out of your football ability, we stuffed up picking you at number two after Nick.

Fair point. I remember a commentator once saying the rough pass mark for a top 10 draft pick is to receive at least one All Australian selection in their career. I tend to agree and going by that criteria and a few others, then maybe Kosi hasn't lived up to realistic expectations.

He may well have underachieved by our expectations and by those of the general footballing community.

Those expectations were based on his junior performances and his drafting at #2.

However Kosi didn’t pick himself at #2, our club did.

For some people to continually bag the bloke for not playing like a #2 is supposed to play like, and to suggest (as some on here have) that he doesn’t really put in, is IMO pretty poor form.

If anyone’s got some sort of proof that Kosi is not trying and is simply taking a pay cheque then by all means let’s see it.

Otherwise just let the guy get on with what he’s doing, i.e. playing as well as his ability and previous injuries allow him to play.

Bernard, why when you quote him, is it selective?

'If you've got what you need to out of your football ability' is what you said

When quite clearly, he said 'I think I have got what I need to out of my body and my footy ability'

It's a silly omission, because it's so completely relevant to what he said, and just makes you look petty IMO.

What has Bernard Shakey ever done for the St.kilda football club?

He is the biggest whinger on this forum and it's biggest idiot

I'm sure he is a passionate, paid up member, who has contributed much over the years.

I don't think he is a whinger or an idiot.

It's his right to not rate Kosi as a player, I just wanted to correct him on his omission, because his injuries have been relevant.

Bigger question is if Kosi is upset because his brother Nadal lost last

Kosi has the goods but lacks the killer drive of Rooey. On the skills side Kosi lacks very little, just fails to assert himself in a manner that is bordering on pathological like Rooey or Harves. He is still a good bloke and they are the glue that holds clubs together. Hope he has a blinder this year and shuts the dick heads up.

People are saying that he has been disappointing for a number 2 draft pick, but that needs to be taken in context.
The top ten draft picks in 2000, excluding Roo and Didak, have all been underachievers and as such Kosi is not so far out of place.
He has given us well over 150 games which puts him comfortably in the top ten for that draft and definately at number 3 out of the top ten selected.
So yes he possibly could have achieved more had his body allowed him but I don't think his selection was really that bad upon reflection.

Kosi the club man! Great article and great Club publicity (at last). I'm grateful to him for what he's given us, especially after that nearly crippling head clash. That is courage personified.
