Subbing off - Watters approach

Post: # 1207678Post saintspremiers »

Last week Milne. Not injured, just give the old boy a rest.

This week Gilbo. Had a niggle, but subbed him off just to be safe.

Guts of it is that Scott backs the whole team, not worried about subbing off a bigger name.

Must gie enormous confidence for the newer players to back themselves. Simpkin's 2nd half effort is testament to this.

Not sure it takes too much guts when you are in front by 10-15 goals?

We could have subbed out 3 players and still won.

Congratulations to Watters for his innovative subbing off of Gilbert when he was clearly injured.

If he didn't play for the Saints but some other team he may have got sent back on rather than subbed off. One for Watters right there... :D

various reports actually mentioned MIlney as having been unwell for a couple of weeks.. niggly tummy or similair - not injured as such- so why not..and give someone else a decent amount of time=- better than them running laps of the square or goalline to goalline which seems to be the standard for player who get 1 qu or less- in most teams.

I was at the game and Gilbert look very restricted in the test he was given when the players run back onto the ground after half-time. After a bit of discussion he ran off and was subbed not to long after.

This.

Gilbert was cooked.

Watters is some kind of genius.

Gilbo was clearly having some sort of back spasm. Well in front and with an eye to Freo next week, it was a no-brainer to sub him off, giving him the best possible chance to recover.

Gilbert's injury looked more like an ankle to me.

He was only wearing one boot at the 3/4 time huddle

pretty sure milney was "crook" (see cj interview after the game)
and according to fox footy boundary rider (kingy or whoever it is) gilbo did an ankle.
so not sure scotty was doing much.
but lets not let facts get in the way of a jibe at ross ( i usually dont) :-)
