Big money was thrown at him, money the saints struggle with.

I hated him as a player but he has been a fine and persuasive structural coach from the comments of players and fellow coaches.

Not sure he'll ever be a senior coach, but as an assistant he certainly did well with us and the support of Lyon.

Carlton's premiership year in 95 and their crack in 96 was based on a salary cap fraud and a brilliant defence that was brutal and rock solid (except against us :P :D)

Our defense looked good due to numbers back..... Which in turn hurt our offense.....

Now our offense looks better because we hold a fwd structure but our defenders don't get the same level of help

It's swings and round abouts really

As far as the midfield goes, losing the ruck hurts.... If we had a dominant Ruckman.... Our clearances would be not only better than even, but quality.... With Hayes, Dal, Steven, CJ, Armitage and Joey we would own the stoppages if they had better service...

Even if we had 2 Nic Nats we would still probably be a middle of the road team.
If we had two Nic Nats we would be undefeated IMO. One resting forward while the other rucked. Hell, you could even toss one for a run as a mid a la Goodes from time to time. I'd give a kidney for that set up.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

So are you suggesting that we've only been two elite players short of being undefeted and an untouchable flag contender. IMO we have a few more holes to plug than just two star quality players/ruckman. Aaron Sandilands proves that winning every hitout doesn't result in victory.

Yes, I suppose I am. And Nic Nat is an extraordinary talent whose hypothetical spoon-feeding of Montagna, Len, Jack and Dal excites me somewhat. Two of him in St K colours would be rather helpful in my view. Just shooting' the breeze, old boy. I'm not really spooling for a blue about the topic. Sorry to disappoint.

That would be good but every side could say if we had a better this or better that we would be a much better team. For example, in the 09 Prelim, bulldogs would have said that they only needed a key forward like Roo to get them over the line...we would have said if we only had an Ablett or a Judd...

And if we had a Sheedy or Barassi in 2009 we would probably have 3 flags!

Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!
