"He recently moved on his demands, asking for three years and a option for a fourth year with conditions included, but the Saints rejected it."
That is extremely disappointing. 3 years plus the option for a fourth at the figures reported in that article... it's very reasonable.
If it's true, I'm really saddened by this.

the only figure quoted is the Bombers one- would seem saints numbers less than that,, as should be if we are to remain viable...
interesting that Bomber who was part of the geelong - keep them all at lower level- pay scale would be part of the over pay a few ,,,

So where do they then go with their brownlow medalist captain. If BJ gets $800000 then wouldnt a Brownlow medalist be worth at least 900000.

Really sad he is going. I dont know why but I am

There is only club loyalty with the fans.

Not players, coaches, admin.

How loyal will Watters be to the Saints aftwer his time as coach is finished?

Couldn't ask for a more loyal, committed professional for our club ATM, but he was loyal and committed to the Pies this time last season.

bj, take the money and run, will be the biggest pay packet in your life.

Thanks for your efforts especially in the 09 and 10 GF's.

i for one will always be appreciative.

What is your view on matching the so called terms from Essendon?

should saints be criticized if it does not?

My view is that he is not worth $800k and four years.

My view is that the Saints should not compromise the rest of its SC for the sake of bj.

i am happy the Saints have not been bent over, I am happy bj will get big bucks at Essendon, I am happy we can move on.

Do you seriously think he is worth 800k over four years?

Lance or James??

Sad to see Goddard go.

Was great for a little while but seemed to not enjoy it at the saints this year and lost his cool a lot.

Good luck at essendon.

Well chook, I cant blame Goddard.

Anyway, the way Watters was talking at the end of the season, we may see some shocks and some forward thinking.

He was talking about major shakeups in the next 12-24 months.

Think there may be plenty of teeth gnashing coming up.

And I also think we have to cool our heels in 2013.

Seems like Saints played hard ball even with bj revising his offer, Saints apparently wouldn't budge.

First of the old breed gone.

Thanks for the efforts bj, now lets look to who we get.

Milera and Saad were great pickups last year. I am sure more are on then way.

Meh - unlikely that we are going to win a Premiership with an aging Goddard in the side anyway and very unlikely Essendon will either within the next 4 years.

If he doesnt win a Premiership with Essendon then they become the losers (Goddard doesnt care becasue he is now cashed up) whereas we move forward (with a view to the future) and strengthen our list with another 1st round draft pick and ease our salary cap pressure.

Agree with all the above but it is still going to hurt us in the short to medium term. I wonder what offer he went back to the Saints with.

This is a very risky move by Essendon. If it back fires, will fans call for the heads of Hird and Bomber like they did for Matthew Knights? Some how, I doubt it.
