Elevate Fergo?
Is it time that we look at elevating Fergo to help bolster the backline?
Thats Mr. Smartarse to you
Re: Elevate Fergo?
Simpkin doesn't seem to be right at the moment, Gwilt should come in but I reckon Fergo could be a vital part within the backline structure.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Is not the answer from what I have seen. No disrespect to the guy but is not an AFL class defender at this stage and has limited attacking skills.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Gwilt in and upgrade the Shentonator for some hard run from the backline- he would look like Roberton shrunk and got faster. Confuse them I say. Then put TDL and Milera in as running wingers.
Re: Elevate Fergo?
Roberton is exactly same type of player.....
Do we need another medium back??
What exactly is Simpkin on the list for??
We have two undersized key defenders.... Gwilt, Simpkin
A load of utility tall running backs.... Fisher, Dempster, Roberton, Ferguson, Gilbert
Our list profile is weird
Trying to use an athletic tall Ruckman as a FB.....
Just a strange set up, anyways...

See how we go when Gwilty comes back
But if we get another injury down back later in the year then by all means give Jacko a go.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Depends of course how bad Gilbo's injury is. If it is a long term say 8 week injury elevate Fergo and Curren and tell them they are fighting for a position for the year.Con Gorozidis wrote:See how we go when Gwilty comes back

Re: Elevate Fergo?
I would prefer Shenton as he is really on the chopping block otherwise. He would give us a big mature frame with pace and good overhead marking. Can play both ends then maybe Curren for a midfield rotation when the kids tire later on.

totally agree with that.
fergo plays a similar role to gilbo. tall but more of a running defender.
Re: Elevate Fergo?
Well we have 1 spot to elevate a rookie at this stage, could be more if Gilbo's injury is worse than first thought. I didn't like the look of it and his body language didn't seem overly confident that it was minor. If that is the case we have the opportunity to elevate 2 and if that's the case I would give one to Fergo.gringo wrote:I would prefer Shenton as he is really on the chopping block otherwise. I like the Ferg but just not sure he offers more than Gwilt. He isn't a Gorilla and won't stop another Cloke or Buddy onslaught. Minchington and Staley are there and playing well too but haven't been injured but also probably don't have a spot. Unless Minchington can play as a midfielder.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Ferguson is just an average/good VFL player at the moment. Would get torn to shreds if forced to play on an AFL key forward with AFL delivery.

Obvioulsy gwilt is miles in front of ferg and gilbo never plays on on kpps.
i dont thin anyone expects ferg to play on a key fwd.
just back up flanker as a cover for gibo...
if gwilt returns well be ok down back...
geary stanley gwilt

any more injuries to these 6 - and we will need ferg. in that case it becomes more a matter of ferg v blake i guess.
id rather play ferg than blake at this point in time.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Ferg is coming back from injury and played possibly half or a bit more last week-
so no reasdy to be upgraded in IMO- - if he continues to prove himsefl and develop gameexperience over next few weeks and place is available then it's would be an option
IF Lenny is out would Curren be the upgrade option if needed.....

Re: Elevate Fergo?
We had Gwilt, Ferguson, Simkin & Blake playing for Sandi yesterday.
Gwilt worked his way into the game and played pretty well in the second half. He looked the most likely to get a call up
Ferguson didn't do much apart from kick a nice goal in the last Q
Simkin was similar to Ferg. Kasboult and (occasionally) Rowe were too big & strong for them
Blakey probably doesn't need to be stabbed with a fork to let us know that he's nearly cooked

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Would have Dempster before Fisher ATM. At least Dempster is looking like he gives a toss.groupie1 wrote:if gwilt returns well be ok down back...

Re: Elevate Fergo?
Ferguson isnt a key defender, he's your Fisher/Dempster style player that plays best as loose man and running out of backline.

Ferg had a lot of work done on his lower back during yesterdays game.

Re: Elevate Fergo?
I think Gwilty can come in and maybe Sammy so no need to upgrade Ferg at this point - but I am bullish on Ferg in the medium term and would like to see him upgraded at years end and put on the real list for 2014.

I will be very pissed off if we upgrade either Curren or Ferg if they havent played a few games by seasons end. 3 years in the system without a senior game suggests you just arent good enough.
