Saad interview on SEN (Connolly Report)

Post: # 1423199Post SemperFidelis »

I have to say, I feel really nervous about him giving this sort of interview including this sort of public "confession" before the ASADA appeal period is over.

I suppose it might be a strategy designed to stop ASADA from doing just that, but I hope it doesn't backfire.

He said it hadn't occurred to him to check whether the powder was on the banned substance list as he had been given the product by a trusted source.

"[It] was someone that was kind of like a mentor and a family member," said Saad, speaking on SEN. "I had that much trust with him, it was as if the coach had given me that product. I was taking it exactly as if the club had told me to.

"He actually didn't check if it was banned or not, and I didn't either because coming from him was like coming from the coach, so it was quite surprising for both of us.

Parallels to Essendon players much?

This never occurred to me, but could make sense. Horrifying if true, but if it is, it is very surprising it hasn't emerged before.

I remember GT getting into supps to lose weight. Drank weird juices etc.
Saad was definitely speaking of an honourable person as supplier to him
but obviously dumb as well. Would love the person to be named.come on

There was no mentor. And as he stated he had used it more than once.

Unlikely to be GT. Most likely to be the guy who owned and ran the company that distributed the product as they also sponsored him.

Yep, he was both dumb and unlucky. It would be extremely naive to think no other players had used it. Maybe they were just lucky.

Wouldn't be too long a bow to think it may be GT
Statements like "it was just like a coach a trusted family member " etc
Saad did live in GTs garage.....
It's not beyond the realms of possibility ..?

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf" 

Excuse my stupidity - Wanganeen is not Saad's BIL.

Ahmed Saad interview

Post: # 1423413Post Megamaguire »

Just listened to the audio supplied by Hit the Boundary (above) and I can't help feeling a bit gutted for Ahmed.
Ahmed comes across as a real positive guy and his positivity should get him through the next 12 mths. The un-premeditated nature of his slip-up continues to bring a tragic element to his football career.
I liked his mention of his own situation compared to a player who had done a knee and was facing a year out of the game. He is injury free and hopefully stays 'in shape' and can make himself redraftable next year.

What a roller-coaster! married and banned from playing football in the same year.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
