Dan Markworth
Wondering if anyone saw Markwortth play in the VFL on the weekend. Looked like he played well in round 1, but not a mention of him anywhere after round 2. I didn't see a review of him in the VFL wrap and he's not on the injury list... hopefully he's tracking alright?? Cheers

Re: Dan Markworth
We have a maximum number of saints allowed in the sandy seniors each week.
Dan & Minch were ordinary in an otherwise strong team performance... Acres gunned it in the dev squad so was promoted, while the other 2 were sent down.
Dan had a decent game in the dev squad from all reports, he wasn't terrible the week before, but looked a little lost... Finished the game quite well.
With a couple of injuries this week I hope he can play seniors again.

Re: Dan Markworth
Fair enough with the number of Saints players. I really hope Markworth comes on this year, I'm not the only one who rates him..dragit wrote:We have a maximum number of saints allowed in the sandy seniors each week.

Re: Dan Markworth
Thought he was very good in pre season games I saw
But, had a poor game against Frankston R1

Re: Dan Markworth
Right. 10 or 11 touches in a solid win was pretty disappointing. Not really surprising he was dropped, but a couple of injuries to the AFL side should find him a spot this week. Holmes down to the 3s and maybe Minch stays down.BigMart wrote:Thought he was very good in pre season games I saw

Just struggled to get into the game. Looked good when he had the footy, used it pretty well, but went missing for large parts of the game.bergholt wrote:Right. 10 or 11 touches in a solid win was pretty disappointing. Needs to get to more contests, and be able to have an impact on the game even if he's not having a good day. It will come with time - he's missed a lot of footy and takes time.
I have a scary feeling he might become one of those mid-sized forwards that doesnt really have a position at AFL level. Has to focus on running through the midfield, or being a rebounding defender, or he'll start getting into Siposs territory....
Re: Dan Markworth
I'm not sure "high leading forward" is a position any more. Ryan O'Keefe did it for a few years but he plays midfield now. Our high leading forwards at the moment are Riewoldt and Stanley - not sure a guy of Markworth's size fits the mould.dragit wrote:Ideally play wing or high leading forward.

Re: Dan Markworth
Riewoldt and Maister/Lee are our 'target' forwards... Someone like Markworth would be making leads further up the ground...bergholt wrote:I'm not sure "high leading forward" is a position any more. Unfortunately Riewoldt has to do it all at the moment as we are short on other decent forwards.

Re: Dan Markworth
I'm pretty sure Webster was in the development squad last year or could have been the year before. I wouldn't worry too much. I think he will have to find a position as a rebounder where he can exploit his pace long term.

Re: Dan Markworth
Webster played in the Dev team in 2012... For a few games early before injury.
Daniel isn't great overhead, and will likely be a wingman type, or flanker.... Fairly outside, likes to run and take the game on.
Has pace, and some attributes but a some footy smarts to learn

Re: Dan Markworth
So did Sam Crocker, Jay Lever and Jordan Staley - let's not pretend it's a good sign.BigMart wrote:Webster played in the Dev team in 2012... For a few games early before injury.
Re: Dan Markworth
Markworth is in his third season. Presumably that's an even worse sign.BigMart wrote:Not such a bad sign in first few games...
Not so good in your second season.
Re: Dan Markworth
You suspect Dan is falling into the neither here nor there group of players.
Sipposs, Dunnell, Markworth, Shenton, Minchington.
I wish him all the best it's going to be up hill from here.

It's his second year playing football unless you count an entire year missed through injury.bergholt wrote:Markworth is in his third season. Presumably that's an even worse sign.BigMart wrote:Not such a bad sign in first few games...

3 games ago he was BOG in a final for Sandringham.
Dev squad isn't great, but I wouldn't be getting too excited about it yet, he's still building confidence after a knee… let's give him this year to show something.

I 'd like to think he's got more upside than the others you've mentioned. Two years ago he was named as an emergency a number of times.PJ wrote:You suspect Dan is falling into the neither here nor there group of players.

Not a problem for Daniel (although he is 22? I believe)
More so for White I was thinking
