Give it a red hot Crack Jason

Post: # 1531031Post saintbrat »

Holmes is in a race with North Melbourne’s Eric Wallace and to a lesser extent Collingwood’s Mason Cox to be the first American convert to play at AFL level (West Coast premiership player Don Pyke was born in the States but was the son of WAFL player Frank Pyke and was raised in Australia).

“He wouldn’t say it but I know deep down Jason has had that determination for quite some time to be the first American to play this game,’’ Hudson said. “Just knowing him, he’s pretty driven to achieve that.’’

Was he Australian raised?

Perhaps he doesn't qualify as a "convert".

I just wiki'd it too. I must admit good call from p76 for remembering that. I did have a chuckle.
Sanford Wheeler. Classic. :D
If Holmes plays a senior game - which is looking seriously possible it will be awesome. I assume it will be big news.

But not the first American convert, because he didn't have to convert from anything

He played basketball until he was 19. He played cricket until he was 20 and was still playing marbles after his first AFL game.

Does having a red hot crack put him on the injury list, though?

Not the first to play marbles after playing AFL./VFL.

Have you forgotten Tom Bola in the 1920s?

I read it. I don't understand why I had too. Nothing to change what I wrote.

And riding his skateboard to training. Surely that was a first for an AFL player?

Pretty simple. Wheeler played junior football for the Parramatta Aussie Rules Club = he is not a convert.

Context is also very clear as it also had: (West Coast premiership player Don Pyke was born in the States but was the son of WAFL player Frank Pyke and was raised in Australia). So just as Don was excluded, Sanford was as well.

So to answer your question of what about Sanford Wheeler? A: He is not an American convert.

He spoke with an American accent. he was a convert. And more impotantly back then he was said to be the first yank to play AFL.

As much as I love Sanford Wheeler - This was a good call by p76 - he is not a true convert.

The race is still on for the first true American to play AFL and JH is probably in the lead.

Is Mal Michael the first PNG player? Wheeler is the first American to play AFL. The question should be who will be the first American brought over specifically to play AFL.

Being an international do we still require someone to come off the main list before he can get an upgrade?

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
