St Kilda missed out on a number of premierships because it overpaid 10 players more than 60% of the salary cap.
Consequently the club could not recruit in elite players from other clubs when it needed to.
The type of players Hawthron recruited from other clubs to give them 3 plus premierships.
When the club started trimming back pay of the highest paid, some starting with Luke Ball said I can get more elsewhere.
Goddard was one such player.
He could get more money elsewhere and Essendon appeared to have a premiership window opening.
Goddard did want to stay at St Kilda but not for what was on offer.
He now sees Essendon's window has closed and even Essendon see that he won't be part of their next premiership tilt.
His return would help St Kilda up the ladder only temporarily.
Like Essendon he will not be part of our next premiership tilt.
