Favour to ask

Post: # 1633279Post Sainter_Dad »

I was going to the game this weekend, however circumstances have stopped me.

I have a massive favour to ask.

The Fitzroy Lions Memorabilia Museum is at Ethihad, and I have a framed Allan Ruthven Fitzroy Gorillas jumper which needs delivering there. I am in Skye/Carrum Downs (or Pakenham during business hours), and I know that it is short notice, however, I would like to still be able to get the jumper to Arthur Wilson at the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions historical society museum.

Is there anyone driving in to the game that could deliver it - there is no money to change hands, I am donating it for them to display (you might have to put up with some 'old man' reminiscences though)

Lovely read about the Roys, Arthur Wilson and the FFC museum at Etihad.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/ ... zroy-alive

"With its wind-swept concourse, tangled web of office high-rises and all those artless chunks of concrete and steel, the approach to Etihad stadium doesn’t offer much for the romantically inclined football fan, at least not on first sight. But if you wind around right to gate four and climb a few flights of stairs, you’ll reach a cavernous room in which you’re enveloped by the history of Fitzroy Football Club, the AFL team who ceased to exist 20 years ago this week. If you’re lucky, you’ll arrive on a day when Arthur Wilson is there to greet you."

The Roy Boys museum is on Level 2 city side.
It is fascinating to look at if you get the chance.
Some memorable photos there.
So sad to think the club is dead now and all that history will become irrelevant as their old fans slowly drift off.

Unfortunately, it would appear the modern version of the Lions is heading the same way. Interesting to see what lengths the AFL goes to, in order to save them. They actively killed off Fitzroy.

Thanks to Winmar7 - the jumper will be finding pride of place at the Museum on Sunday.

Thanks again
