Yes, this weekend would be much welcomed by the players in teams involved in playing finals. Unfortunately it creates a bit of a void for the rest of us. Oh well, will be interesting to see how the teams respond to the week off. I'm guessing teams more hit with injuries are regarding it as a blessing more than say teams like Sydney who ended the home and away season with a heap of momentum.

The game I despise the most is Sydney/GWS and the fact one of those teams goes straight to a Prelim. Couldn't stand either of those f****** lovechild teams winning the flag

And what irks me most is this; when these sides like Sydney and Brisbane are up and about, winning grand finals, we all get to hear about how great their culture is, and how they are so well run - but when the COLA dries up, and all of their extra draft picks for merging with a hundred year old Victorian foundation club are long gone, all the clubs agree to give them even more concessions. The clubs agree for AFL cash, but none of the members are surveyed.
Because we are not contesting this year, and probably next, I say let the Swans and GWS play off in the GF and the Giants win this year and next. And let Brisbane lie in the bed they have made for themselves. We have made some disastrous trading and drafting decisions and we have had to suck it up and endure a four year rebuild - 88 games with a winning percentage of 30% in that time - and are just now seeing the light, let Brisbane suck it up and their supporters can take their medicine for four years (although it sounds as if they are going to get the first of their priority picks this year.) If the Giants win a flag or two now, it will save the endless concessions they'll definitely get if they don't.
I can't wait to see the spin the AFL are going to have to put on the Suns when they are compromising the draft yet again in a couple of years, and how rank and file footy members react.
If the AFL are going to compel the comp to adhere to this blatantly unfair form of footy socialism and FIXturing, how about being equitable about it and start by stumping up some conce$$ions to the following clubs, starting with the longest flag droughts?

Bulldogs - no flag for 62 years
Melbourne - no flag for 52 years
Sainters - no flag for 50 years
Richmond - no flag for 36 years
Carlton - no flag for 21 years

I have heard it suggested in the media that clubs start to receive draft concessions for lack of success - years out of finals, years without a flag. This has genuine merit.

Then we get a "real" media presence not one that is strictly compliant at all times. Maybe then we'd see real people in the media again like GT who was forced out by AFL policy
