Big Boy McEvoy

Post: # 1637497Post skeptic »

Yes i know this should be in the opposition forum but there's not too much activity here at the moment...

Let me say it again... What a downhill skier!!!

He skirts around a kick behind play, often taking marks as an extra man down back but where the hell was he when the Bulldogs were getting running away with the game?
In fact when have you ever heard the phrase "McEvoy, the best player in a losing side"?

People talk this guy up so much because he can take a contested mark but he is absolutely the luckiest SOB ever because he has had the fortune to play in a team that can carry him and still won premierships. We all knew that the Hawks dynasty was gradually coming to an end and it's the recruiting of players like Ben that will see them eventually fall that little bit faster than you'd think.

Smashed in the centre, no influence around the ground, practically unsighted in the second half... Same old story from when he was with us

Say what you will about Pelican, but it was an absolute coup that we got what we did out of that trade. We'll end up way out in front in the end i think.

yep lumbering old style ruckman and the game now demands more.
Could get away in a great side but not at us - so the move to trade was spot on.

I will repeat that it was my view that Hickey had left McEvoy well behind when we traded McEvoy out.

The injuries and inability to put in a pre-season delayed confirmation of this assessment - but now it is there for all to see.

McEvoy is not a patch on Hickey and never has been.

My enduring memory of McEvoy was playing behind the ball, getting isolated and attacking players running to the goal line with McEvoy lumbering along behind. And it was a frequent occurrence because all Clubs knew we could only play McEvoy behind the ball and then isolated him.

Hawthorn were in the chase for Longer but lost interest when they secured McEvoy.

The trade got us either of Dunstan or Acres - plus Savage who, whilst a list player, is handy for depth.

Hawthorn's day is now done - and I would not expect them to make the finals in 2017 and for many years meaning those players they are looking to attract "to play in a premiership side" courtesy of Free Agency which rule change has delivered them successive flags will be frustrated and particularly the guy who has already committed to them.

Their decisions "to play in a premiership side" will deliver as it has to Goddard and Dal Santo.

The real shame is that we should have beaten them in 2016.

Bring on 2017!

With all due respect, I don't see what the problem is here.

I'm sharing an opinion on a fan forum. You've been known to share a few yourself SC as is your right and I haven't sunk the boots in to you when you've got the odd one wrong.

It may be tough, it may be harsh but it wasn't abusive and focused on his game.

Nobody said it was abusive. But definitely a kick when down. NBD.

Yeah i'm sure he's wallowing with his premiership medallions

Do i have to point out that the kick jim when he's down argument makes no sense when i'm not actually speaking to Ben... The chances of his reading this is zero... If he actually did read it, he'd just laugh at me and think I'm another armchair expert... And if he was seriously offended then he should harden up

Big Boy was far from their worst player tonight.

Yes, but how did you know I was a mediocre player?

We got a great deal in the trade with Hawthorn for him. Ended up with Shane Savage and their first round pick who turned out to be Luke Dunstan.

Big Boy done nothing to deserve this. We traded him out. He'[s been a great servant for the hawks. he's won 2 flags. Not sure the point of the thread, he never wanted to leave the Saints. Plenty of other more worthy recipients of bagging tonight of the Hawks.................

Many said the same thing about Geelong in recent years and they're now one game away from another GF.

They aren't spent just yet.

1. His performance was worthy of a bagging
2. Other players played worse is not a justification for a poor performance
3. The thread has nothing to do with sour grapes

Just 18 months ago Hickey was playing second fiddle to Holmesy at Sandringham and struggling to get a kick in the VFL

He was excellent in 2016 but up to that point had played about 10 good AFL games

McEvoy had played in 3 grand finals for 2 flags... I reckon Hawthorn are happy with his services
Dunstan would not have got a game in their midfield
Savage couldn't get a game for them

Yes he is a lumberer but in saying that ... He was in the top 3 runners at STK and could do what many ruckman can't
Take a contested Mark

I actually thought Benny played alright last night. There were plenty of other players that barely gave a yelp for Hawthorn in the second half.
