How does Bugg get 6 weeks and Houli 2?
Yes Houli ended up with 4 after AFL appeal.
But the tribunal issued 6 to Bugg and 2 to Houli.
Both looked similar to me.
Both players hit concussed and similar outcome.
Were is the consistency?

Re: How does Bugg get 6 weeks and Houli 2?
The 2 weeks for Houli was obviously wrong and I think they were influenced by the character references.
The Bugg incident was considerably worse as it was not in play and Bugg was facing a stationary opponent and landed a deliberate punch to the head.
6 weeks is a fair penalty.

Pretty obvious I would've thought. Tribunal got all wet in the knickers over Wally and the PM, then saw the results of the appeal and the sensible public reaction, learned from their mistake and altered accordingly.

I think Bugg may have got a character reference from Paul Roos. You can't win them all.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Hoult swung an arm behind him and collected a bloke in the head without looking.
Bug looked a bloke in the eye and punched him in the jaw with a clenched fist.
Two completely different scenarios!

How many weeks do you think Bugg should have got?Joffa Burns wrote:Yes Houli ended up with 4 after AFL appeal.

I think Bugg's penalty was appropriate, Houli to me was lucky to get 4 with the original 2 a joke.kosifantutti wrote:How many weeks do you think Bugg should have got?Joffa Burns wrote:Yes Houli ended up with 4 after AFL appeal.

Re: How does Bugg get 6 weeks and Houli 2?
This: the incidents were nothing like each other: Bugg's was 100% intentional and Houli's was a case of lashing out when he was being held. I've got absolutely no idea what the OP was on about.Bernard Shakey wrote:Hoult swung an arm behind him and collected a bloke in the head without looking.

And I feel a bit sorry for Houli: if the tribunal had given him two or three just on the basis of their assessment of the severity of the incident, and not allowed the whole silly character reference thing, the penalty probably would have been allowed to stand. But then there was an appeal by the AFL (against its own tribunal: how weird is that?) and the penalty was increased.
I reckon the whole tribunal system is a joke ATM. I reckon everything should go straight to the tribunal and there should be no appeals. And no lawyers involved. Sure there would be some decisions that everyone would complain about, but it would be a straightforward system.

Bugg would have got 4 if the Houli incident didn't happen - the tribunal were made to look like fools a week ago and adjusted their decision accordingly.

Was interested to see that great Visy man Chris Judd saying it is time to introduce a red card system.
But Juddy didn't say if it should apply to eye-gougers and chicken wing tackles!

Re: How does Bugg get 6 weeks and Houli 2?
I can't believe the major consensus is that 6 weeks (from the media) was the right penalty.
For me, punching a bloke in the head in a game of footy should carry a massive penalty. Like 10-12 weeks minimum. Or more. It's an absolute dog act and has no place in footy.
Unfortunately the precedence was set with Barry Hall. He only got 8 weeks for his hit when it should have been the rest of the season. He and Bugg could have killed the guys they hit. Seriously. 6 weeks is not enough.
GO SAINTS!!!

Perhaps 6 weeks is light given the act and injury sustained.
Still think Houli got off very lightly as he turns to look at the opponent before delivering the blow.

8 weeks was far more appropriate than what he got for punching Maguire in the stomach in the 2005 PF.kp83 wrote:Unfortunately the precedence was set with Barry Hall. He only got 8 weeks for his hit when it should have been the rest of the season.
I think 6 weeks is a pretty severe penalty on the basis of what has been given out in recent years: Hall's 8 weeks was a long time ago. In reality, I doubt that we'll see Bugg again this season, and possibly never: he was a bit of a fringe player anyway, and his idiotic punch greatly damaged his club's public reputation and put his team so heavily on the back foot early in the game that they couldn't come back.

How come Tom Bugg isn't being called a coward in the Murdoch Fascist Media, hasn't lost his job and isn't being investigated by the police for assault?

Simple - Bugg didn't have a character reference from the PM.

Even simpler, Bugg is a s*** bloke, and doesn't do PR work as the face of multiculturalism in AFLSainternist wrote:Simple - Bugg didn't have a character reference from the PM.
