... trading Rhys Stanley was a masterstroke.
Late in the first qtr he just had to go hard at the ball but he hung back and Adelaide took the ball the length of the ground for another goal.

Geelong would be crazy trading Motlop out.
He is their only fast player.
They will be bog slow without him.

Dangerfield, Cockatoo, Parfit, Laing, Stewart?

Yep we've been short a ruck forward for 3 years and our replacement has played a half a game in the last 2 years, is hanging onto his career by a thread whilst Stanley has played 40+ games and 4 finals…

Masterstroke.

Mmm... just because we haven't found a replacement ruck doesn't mean that Rhys decision was a terrible one. I certainly wouldn't say that he has been better at Geelong then he was with us.
Still very inconsistent and doesn't produce his best often enough

We got Hugh Goddard for him or DMac depending on who u believe. Too early to completely rule either of these guys out.

To be honest, I pbly still take that deal

Cockatoo is ok but still young.
Parfitt still a kid. Strong as an ox but not really a speedster.

Lang and Stewart are just vfl players.

With the amount of back slapping on here about getting rid of Stanley, you'd think we'd won a flag or un-earthed a brownlow medalist… until the guy we replaced him with makes some kind of meaningful impact at AFL level we haven't even benefited from the trade, let alone pulled off a masterstroke.

Stanley is no world beater, but he just clocked up 100 AFL games in a side playing a 2nd straight prelim… good luck to him. Pretty sad that we would look to him for a laugh right now.

Anyway, it's nice to see the Cats failing again big time on the prelim final stage. Hopefully they go backwards from here

Geelong’s only period of decent football was when Stanley went in to the ruck.

I showed extreme self control and patience with Rhys Stanley, just waiting for him to develop into a really high quality player. I reckon, for us, his only truly good game was when we gave (I forget who) a fair flogging at Etihad. He kicked 3 in the first half aand Roo had a night out.

I thought h had come of age. Then, he slipped back into his comfort zone - equal parts inconsistency and mediocrity. In the end, getting pick 19 for him was a good deal.

Now, with over 100 senior games and 9 seasons behind him, Geelong is living in the hope he will make it. Nup, his brilliant inconsistency is still nullified by extended periods of mediocrity.

I wish him well, but the Saints were the clear winner by moving him on. Could you imagine how the jackals on this forum would have been feeding off him had he stayed?

When Stanley was a saint, the players were asked to rate themselves.

Guess who came stone motherless last. Yep. Your boy.

I was at Subiaco in 2010 for our game against the West Coast Eagles. Rhys Stanley made his senior debut that day. He took a mark inside fifty early in the game and managed to spray his kick to miss the lot. Always potentially a good player, but his second efforts (IMHO) were always a let down, never saw him chase or impose himself at a contest. I was amazed that the catters took him to be honest.

Well half of those blokes are now retired without reaching 50 games, so they clearly have no idea.

I have a soft spot for any saint who is traded out when they didn't really want to leave.

At this point in time our ruck stocks are worse than when McEvoy and Stanley were on the list.
