Jacko on goalkicking.
I put a lot of hard work into my goalkicking. Accuracy is not a God given talent. It's something that you take 2-300 shots every training night, every day of the week, to improve every area of your goalkicking. Learning how to cut the ball in and out of the wind. Kick it against the wind, how to cut the ball left and right, just like a swing bowler. How many steps to take off, like a fast bowler knows and comes within a fraction of that crease.
He averaged almost four goals a game in struggling sides so kicking goals was something he knew about.
He also said you train how you play.

Re: Jacko on goalkicking.
Many years ago Lee Trevino narrowly won a golf tournament and late in the last round he chipped in from well off the green.
At the press conference he was asked "did you get lucky today?".
His response ...
"I sure did, and the strange thing is, the more I practise the luckier I get".

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Re: Jacko on goalkicking.
A point in our season will come (hopefully last week) where the pressure of kicking will get to a tipping point. What I mean is it can’t get worse, and then there’s a chance that they’ll just start getting them. There’ll be no rhyme or reason to it, it’ll just happen.
Clearly last week blokes just froze in front of goal. We get a game where the other things start working and away we go. I’m thinking that this week in Perth is a great opportunity for this to happen

Yes this is a possibility. Its not likely but an away game wher the opposition coach is the medias target and little attention is on the Saints until the Freo fans turn up to the game.
Time to forget the game result and work on completion of some smaller goals and execution points. If the confidence starts to grow, you never know the Saints could go well. They don't have Walters who kicked 6 on us last time so we needs to work to our structures and get the team talk going to get everyone involved.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

If you train like you play then I can't imagine the coach watching him do a couple of hundred handstands at training... the guy is a serious idiot
And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"

Re: Jacko on goalkicking.
Another Heatley at Moorabbin.
Now, her dad was probably in the top three kicks for goal the saints ever had.

"Jason Heatley remains one of the most loved Saints of the late ‘90s.
Following the departure of one of St Kilda’s favourite sons, Tony “Plugger” Lockett in 1994, Heatley filled the considerable void left at full-forward when he arrived from West Coast for the start of 1997.
His influential 73-goal season that year and deadly accuracy from set shots endeared him to Saints fans everywhere, and one of the biggest St Kilda cult heroes of recent times was born.
21 years on from that storied season at St Kilda, the Heatley name has returned to Linton St.
15-year-old Shelby Heatley was all set to undertake her Year 10 work experience at a law firm, but in a strange twist of fate, the daughter of the iconic Saint has landed at RSEA Park and spent this week learning the ins and outs of an AFL football club."
The other two top kicks were Billy Young and Plugger, with Young being clearly the best.

Re: Jacko on goalkicking.
Every time we are at Etihad, I watch the players warm up in front of goals.
Every time, I am disgusted by what I see...
Against Melbourne, there were a number of players practising rugby style drop goals from 25m out on a tight angle. These were players named in the 22 for the game.
Richo walked straight past them.
If we were kicking at 60% or better then you'd let it go but when we're kicking at 40% then that is not acceptable.
Train like you play!

Re: Jacko on goalkicking.
I think Dixon has them wound up too much in technique.
While that is vital to practice, it’s the last thing you should be thinking about when you are actually taking the shot. Target should be the only focus then.
A bloke’s throwing darts, you reckon he’s thinking, “I’ll just use a little more wrist c**k on this one. About 7 degrees more.”
Not likely: He’s thinking bullseye and he’s confident his technique stands up.
