Positives
Jones - brilliant early before getting a knock
Coffield - great game
Howard - his best game for us, great passion and leadership, and THAT goal
Steele - brilliant
Gresham - gave us great drive
Carlisle - our General down back - barely made a mistake
Butler - gets himself to all the right places and can finish
Paton - reliable
Kent - quiet but 2 really important goals
Ryder - best ruckman on the ground
The others were all well below their best, so hopefully that is where the upside we need to beat Port will come from.

Re: Positives
Its a very quick side
Just look at the pace of the FF and the FB let alone the small brigade.
When they've played together for a few more games we will see the composure improve and we will look alot more skilful.

Not playing well against a desperate bogey opponent on a bogey ground and still getting the 4pts

Re: Positives
agree with OP ... gave a fair bit of hope tonight but gee...still looked a bit fragile..next week I'm expecting a drubbing.
We have a future.. Steele . Howard, Hunter, King, Coff, \Marshall ................ we have a good group players , better now than in the last 5 yrs..this group if managed properly will succeed

Re: Positives
Milestone win with effectively two players down. Excellent team effort & coaching. Adelaide were extremely serious got several from the umps but we ran away at the end - that has not been our thing for so so long.

I actually disagree about Gresham. He seems to be devolving to me.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 12:13am Gresham - gave us great drive

- general skill is really low
- goal kicking is farcically poor
- plays for free kicks a lot
His attack on the ball and ability to get to the drop of the ball around stoppage is really great. But his use of the ball and decision making are problematic. It's not scale-able I guess is my concern...if he gets more of the ball I'm not sure we're much better off.
He has had a 180 degree change from the player we drafted. He is now an aggressive grunt midfielder with poor skill, whereas we drafted a skilled, creative player who kills the opposition with a few touches. I hope he can get on top of these deficiencies.

He needs to improve his set shot and he does play for frees a bit too much .
But I reckon he's improving his competitiveness against bigger bodied mid fielders.

Re: Positives
When the f*** are they going to learn to run straight at the middle of where they want the ball to go. ie over the umpires head ffs and why doesn't someone tell them to keep the ball still..just basic stuff ffs.None of that twirly s***. Show them that video of plugger, that would be a good start.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 2:15amGresham had a good gamecarn_sainter wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 1:38amI actually disagree about Gresham. Re: Positives
This is so basic to line up and run directly toward the centre of the goals when goal kicking.
Gresham always seem to line up toward the points and against Carlton Battle did the same with the result of two behinds.
Surely someone can correct this ar training.

Re: Positives
I think it's a positive that if Hunter Clark had 16 touches a year ago, we'd have been very happy. Last night I thought he was well below par, and he still had 16 touches.

Re: Positives
He just needs to go back further and literally run in at his silly angle and aim to kick over the height of the posts. He has a crap set shot technique.

Re: Positives
Excellent OP and agree on all summations.
The biggest positive to me comes from being 4 and 3 taking into account the negatives of the match & 2020.
No Long & Hannebery.
Poor to average games from our higher paid players being Hill, Billings, Ross, Marshall and Membrey.
We got to give Byrnes a taste of AFL - interesting that Ratts gave him a mention. Will wait to see whether he gets another or they look to give Bytel a taste.
A win on the road, a win away from their home away from home - good bonding, good for morale.
A win when challenged, forget the opposition, this was about belief and making a moment count: Seb's tap, Membrey's mark, Roma backing into defenders, Byrnes not shirking an issue - all players that can have better games but did what they needed in a moment.

Seb's handpass to Howard for his first goal in Saints colours wasm't to 'orrible either.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 5:24pm Excellent OP and agree on all summations.

After some really good and really bad performances we're still 6th on the ladder, so keep the trend up and we should be finals bound!

His confidence is clearly shot, he's missed 3 absolute gimmies in the last 2 weeks, and they didn't even look close.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 4:14pm This is so basic to line up and run directly toward the centre of the goals when goal kicking.

Re: Positives
We’re 4-3 in a season when we’re trying to integrate a bunch of new players into the side ho weren’t able to train together, we’ve had to play all over the place, new coach, new game plan, young guys coming in. I think we can only get better.
Clark and Coffield looking better every week. I think a lot of people looking at other clubs players are missing how good some of our guys are becoming.
Howard and King are going to be our bookends for the next decade.
We are looking quicker than I’ve ever seen us look.
Plenty of others too.

<edited by mods> Cho cruelled Coffield. Ratts has him playing with confidence. That's a positive.

Coffield was a bottom ager and looks about an inch or 2 taller and 5-7kg heavier.minneapolis wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 2:42am The Cho cruelled Coffield. Ratts has him playing with confidence. That's a positive.

Re: Positives
He seemed a bit frustrated at times when he lost the contest, and you could see that in his body language when Ratts was talking to him on the sidelines...probably about that- just concentrate.
