Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
The only players I would say were definitively better were Paddy, Dougs, Steele, Hunter and Sincs. 6th best would be .... well, we were really short of options.
The Saints are coming!

If that's the case they have given BOG to Hannebery.

Outside of the boot to ice the game....Really !
Where's was Hills left boot ... still fuming!
Play Bytel instead of Hind and we win that game.

Ross did a few really poor things that gave the easy ball to WCE last night. If we want to seriously challenge finals, probably need to have a long hard think about the list including Ross.

He had 6 kicks, and I don’t think one went to a St Kilda player

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
The Age only listed 4 for our best in their write up as opposed to the usual 5 or 6.
I'm surprised they even found 4.

Kelly was totally awesome. He is exactly what we need and thought Brad Hill could be. I obviously haven't seen a lot of Hill over the years or paid much attention.

Really, when we won most of the stats on the night?
We were 8 points up deep into the last quarter. Only poor finishing in front of goal cost us ultimately.
Kelly and Ryan were awesome for them, the key difference when it really mattered.

Yes really. Also I don't care what the stats say they're misleading if we 'won' them.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 11 Sep 2020 10:07amReally, when we won most of the stats on the night?

Ryder and Steele were the only highlights and most of our team might as well not have been out there.

AFL game articles are BS. Who even reads them.
Need to read blogs and listen to podcasts to get in-depth analysis.

Has been stereotyped as a stopper, poor guy. What fun, going with the Kellys, Dangerfields, Wines, Berrys et al who are more skilled and physically bigger playing in better teams. Like us all he is flawed but to me he tries as hard as he can and takes plenty for the team. Meanwhile, as an example, Kent frolics around doing goodness knows what. Coaching might like to reconsider best use of Seb - he can kick a goal off half forward, I think, given half a chance. Its not his fault we can't recruit hard skilled mids. Although we might actually have a couple but like to keep them in defence.

I thought Ross was near best on ground.
For West Coast that is.
He let Kelly run riot with zero accountability chasing his own ball.

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
Agree that Ross may be better value than the likes of Kent and Hind who simply can't find the ball even when it is right in front of them.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Fri 11 Sep 2020 11:32am Has been stereotyped as a stopper, poor guy. Spot on. He was supposed to be putting on a hard tag (presumably) but instead - was ball watching and getting sucked into contests he couldn't impact. 30 posessions; 9 clearances and 514M gained. Not what I'd hoped from a hard tag

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
He can't play as a head to head midfielder though. He's been pretty good as a stopper for the past month but, his disposal is disgusting in general play. Panicked, rushed and without poise. And that's just the kicking.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Fri 11 Sep 2020 11:32am Has been stereotyped as a stopper, poor guy. If he's the most senior of our mids and a 'leader' then, it's absolutely no wonder we're utterly fvcked.
I said 5 weeks ago that I'd rather lose with Bytel (and get some games into him this season) than lose with Ross in the team. And here we are.

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
We had the same number of scoring shots and a lot of our misses were from very close in. That is what killed us. That doesn't mean that a lot of our other players didn't present - for example our undersized defense did well considering the tall forwards they had to nullify. I think Howard played well for example.roskilde wrote: ↑Fri 11 Sep 2020 10:23amYes really. Even the commentators said that we were playing finals pressure-type footy.

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
Ross is like a seagull in many ways. He may as well tuck his right leg up & let the wind blow him around on his left.
I do not agree he'd be better on a half forward line than Kent or Hind, none of them playing in that position make us dangerous. If that's the only spot for Ross, give it to Savage.

Based on Roughhead’s comments from the hub this afternoon - roll the dice and play Hannebery instead.
Pray for this
At least he’s done it at a high level before and knows how to get it done. He simply can’t be worse than Ross.

Re: AFL Report: Ross one of Saints’ better players?!
for all the angst and wanting to get rid of underperformers - who have we got? gears, ross, kent, hind, billings, membrey were all disappointing (and long i should add) and ideally should all get a spel and a wakeup call, but in reality who comes in? kent and hind can go for sure though. we just dropped philips, marsh and abbot because they are useless, cupboard pretty bare. pissd that we haven't given game time to roberton and webster and savage certainly deserved more.
