No Hickey, No Swans ...

Post: # 1897767Post saintsRrising »

Since Hickey went off the park the Swans fortunes have crumbled...

Coincidence or not?

The big fella was in very good form though.

The Saints could offer Sydney Paul Hunter at seasons end as Hickey's back up, maybe they can turn Hunter into a ruckman.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Not Hunters fault he was a last minute panic pick up & is never going to be a super star but at least he gave everything he had last week I can't say the same about the rest of the team

Hunter was always at best... the second ruck set to play alongside Marshall or Ryder if one was out

He was never meant to be the primary ruck on his own... can’t be too angry with him for failing at something he never had a chance at.
He is an upgrade on that chap we cut in the off-season whose name escapes me.

Still personally prefer him to McKernan

They should have just kept Abbott for another year.

Hickey was under rated at our club by supporters and selectors.

Always had the potential to be a first class ruckman.

I was upset when he was poorly treated by selectors and coach and let go eventually.

It was criminal how he was scapegoated for losses. And the rationale behind some of the games gifted to other ruckmen with no form whatsoever to back it up, during that period when Hickey was on our list was baffling. Truly baffling.

I'll bet the Suns wish they'd kept him too, now.

He didn't want to stay. Knew he wasn't up to it. Bell on the other hand should have been given another year, on the proviso he didn''t play golf with his former roomie.

If we keep McEvoy and Stanley the whole Hickey Longer debacle doesn't occur.
Not to mention the need for McCartin may not have seemed as great!

The main point of my OP was to reinforce that a ruckman in good form really helps a team to go well.

Maybe but may have never discovered Marshall who is much better than the lot of them.

Hickey back, Swans win again...

The only loss with Hickey in the Swans Team this year was the game against GWS when he went off early.
