Carlisle and Gresham vs Darcy Parish
One "AA Quality" but never AA Defender who played 66 games
One injury prone but quality player
vs
A player who was a fringe player but turned himself into an actual AA this year
What do you guys think?

I think you mis spelled and over rated Aaron Francis.

Re: Carlisle and Gresham vs Darcy Parish
We won that deal due to a good draft selection at 18. Gresham is top ten quality and a revised draft would have him there. Carlisle a quality key defender. If you asked this question a few years ago we would be laughing all the way to the bank!!!
A back injury to Carlisle and Achilles to Gresham and a break out Year by Parish swings it back toward Essendon but if Gresham gets over his injury, I believe he will become an A Grade mid/fwd
BTW Parish wasn’t a fringe player, he was playing in dead mans corner (HF)
He got an opportunity when Sheil went down and took it
He’s a good player - as a top 5 pick should be.

Re: Carlisle and Gresham vs Darcy Parish
How many times do we need to set the record straight with this?
Essendope selected Parish with their own draft pick
Our on-traded draft pick was used by them for Francis.
Parish would not have been available to us.

Yes, of course
Then we easily won that trade
Gresham > Francis

Re: Carlisle and Gresham vs Darcy Parish
Don’t care what anyone thinks, but Carlisle was a huge disappointment. Rarely if ever was in our best players. Could only take marks mainly uncontested. Provided no run nor was he capable of setting anything up. Was slow and immobile and some on here fell for his tough guy persona whereas he was quite the opposite. Give me Sam Fisher any day of the week. Essendon supporters said he was a sook and they weren’t wrong

100% agree
Carlisle was massively overrated. The perception of him was very different to the reality!!!

Obviously would have preferred Parish...shame he wouldn’t have been available, even if we kept that pickaxcellence wrote: ↑Wed 29 Sep 2021 11:59am One "AA Quality" but never AA Defender who played 66 games

Re: Carlisle and Gresham vs Darcy Parish
Well the question is with our actual pick at SIX who would we have taken?
Francis which is what Essendon used?
I am pretty sure that on the day of the draft that someone, who was near Finnis, claimed we rated Gresham as pick 6 anyway. If so we got Carlisle for free.

Every club official in the history of the draft has talked up the value of the players they have just drafted.saintsRrising wrote:Well the question is with our actual pick at SIX who would we have taken?

I’m sure someone at the club said “I can’t believe Justin Koschitzke was still available at 2”

Even with Hindsight in that draft if we used our pick 6 I would maybe think about taking Harry Mckay or Jacob Hopper before Gresham

That would have been a no to McKay as we had invested in Paddy
