Bytel not even listed on the extended interchange.
Reckon he might be looking for a trade come years end

There seems to be an excuse for every occasion when Bytel doesn't get picked. He's going to be under immense pressure if he doesn't crack into the side soon, say within the next 4 weeks while Steele is out.

Agree wholeheartedly, young Bytel is in danger of being bypassed by Owens, if not already!
Young Mitch is a bull, with the extra string to his bow of hitting the scoreboard!!

Wow, just Wow. I didn't see that coming.

It is now official, Ratts has got some really big cojones.

So is this what selection integrity looks like.

Is this our Ross Lyon momement of 2007, when Dal and Milne were dropped.

You beat me to it with the Wow.

Did you see that coming. Bloody harsh, we seen other players get more rope. He's clearly not delivered on a non negotiable, what was it is the question, do you know?

that was 2008 and we were very lucky to win that week - 8 points over the Dockers in Melbourne.

Would you think Ratts drops Billings if we are playing a team other than North? He's clearly not delivered on a non negotiable becaue we've seen other players get way more rope, Brad Hill springs to mind.

Well now see what character Billings is, how he responds is what will count.

It’s a very small wow IMO. What is impressive is that we now have players who offer much more than the likes of Billings, Kent and possibly Butler.

Good that we have depth and young guys coming through no longer are players a walk up start.
I have not watched Sandringham play but by all reports he has been playing well deserves a go .

Billings will be fine, he's made of the right stuff IMO.

Good call but a call they must maintain for the remainder of the year. Also a message they are happy with our defensive unit.

I hope Michito kills it along with NWM & Windy. The beginning of our future.

Selection integrity means that there must be metrics that were'nt met and you also have to reward good form at VFL level. I reckon the players had a feeling this was coming. I reckon B.M. had some sort of inside knowledge.

All the talk about the Kangaroos has really been about the blowtorch on their club and administration. It wasn't directed at the players. The media and even the North Melbourne coaches have generally taken it easy on the players this week. They've gone in with an unchanged line-up

I think we have to trust in our juniors and there's no better game for them to compete in than this one. The kangas have a young squad so our young boys should be confident that they can match it with most of their players. I also believe that Ratts is at a stage now with his relationship with our players where he can make these sort of calls without losing the leadership or sending confusing messages.

It's a calculated risk, because if we get a convincing win it reinforces the trust in the game plan. It means that the coaches are trusting the system to get the job done rather than relying on individuals. It also means our young players will gain valuable game day experience and it also means the competition for spots will keep all the senior and experienced players on their toes

Not at all. Am not sure that I like it.

I agree that Billings has either failed to hit a non-negotiable or perhaps he’s under a cloud for some other reason and they want the option of being able to bring him in late if required.
No idea what the case is. Will be interesting to see if he plays at Sandy or ends up as the sub.

I can accept the big omission but this is why I’d have preferred to wait on the Ratts signing... there’s a logic here that I don’t follow

NWM, Windy and Owens all on the pine... that’s not a lot of experience.

Owens wasn’t exactly a standout rd1 and match for match Byrnes has looked better and IMO has deserved the call up more to this point. Webster on the pine... I’d have preferred to give Lienert another opportunity rather than keep a struggling player on the bench.

I don’t know but i don’t like it.

You mentioned experience. That's the key word. Have a look who we are playing this week. It's not Collingwood

Owens played in Round 1 up against an experienced Collingwood side who has big bodies and he was mixing it in the midfield with the likes of De Goey, Adams, Sidebottom, Crisp, Pendlebury, Elliot, etc..

Good to see Owens in, Webster, Sharman and Long need to perform or could suffer same fate as Billings, may be a wake up call to either put in the effort or stop giving away silly frees

It's bold isn't it. Ratts certainly can't be accused for not taking risks and for not being experimental or coaching safe to protect his career.

I've been amazed at how inexperienced our side is and yet still get the job done and I wonder if we aren't paying enough credit to our experienced players who have stepped up to cover for the inexperience. And that’s no disrespect to the new guys because most of them have also been able to come in and have an impact at times.

The other side of this is also we aren’t flush with depth for experienced players so Ratts in a way has been forced to play the the inexperienced players and that's had a silver lining in many areas.

I'm really going to enjoy how we go against North now.

I’m not knocking Owens... happy for the kid to get games on merit which he has. 3 first year players around the same position with a combined 17 games btw them doesn’t seem like a good idea to me.

If the North midfield serve it up to us unexpectedly as they have done before, do we back these guys to be the ones that could turn it around? Windy has progressed enough to be that player sure. NWM to this point has been handy but I think he’d struggle under fire and Owens is gamble to see if he’s ready.

It’s all well and good to praise bold decision making but tell me if the wheels fall of in the game that in hindsight you wouldn’t look at the selected squad and say you couldn’t see what the error was.

People got antsy with my “negativity” in rd1 when I suggested that Byrnes, Owen, Kent, Butler and a returning from long term injury first game back Paton had me concerned regarding who could get the ball/provide run if it all went pear shaped. Ironically of course it was another debutant that stepped up in a big way and turned it around but I still thought that game was ultimately lost a the selection table.

The club is obviously very confident of a comfortable win. I only hope their judgment is spot on because me personally... I don’t like it when our decision makers get cocky. IMO they’re prone to overestimate. I’d have preferred only one of NWM or Owens.
