Delist or trade

Post: # 1964010Post WellardSaint »

If no other club wants these guys, delist them:
In no particular order

Webster
Long
Paton
Bytel
Butler

Butler has worn out his welcome.
He himself isn't sure what to do to improve his game.
Too much party tricks and cute little tap-ons and low % high risk funny kicks that nobody can predict, not even team-mates.

Paton hasn't been the same since the injury, he might attract interest from Norf.
Webster has been here for years, he won't win us any games, nor shut down any oppo fwds consistently.

Long hasn't shown consistency, although he learnt to channel his aggression in the right way.
I don't see him as part of our future.

Bytel was out in his 1st yr with a tough back injury.
I don't think he's done enough to warrant any more effort by the club.

Long frustrated the hell out of me. However all good teams have a Mungrel.
A player that causes uncertainty and chaos around the ball.
This is Longs best asset. We need to use it and develop it in a way that he stays on the park but is utilised in a way that is within the rules -well in the grey area -

And we will have a season like North is having

We cannot afford that to happen

Bad plan

You have to find replacements that you think are an upgrade first and therin lies the challenge.

If you cut Billings, Jones and Ross all at once that's 3 seriously good players you have to bring in at the same time.

De Goey
Tarranto
???

Good luck with that.

What a silly thread -Webster and Ross have been two of our best players this season

Can’t believe I’m saying it, perhaps Geary might have been better than some of them this last fortnight

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

I would add Clark & Coffield to the possible trade list, particularly if we can bring in a genuine midfielder. Clark is way too slow, plus a lazy trainer and Coffield is never going to be the player the club thought they recruited. Both are destined to be small defenders their entire career IMO. We already have one of them on 800-900k per year stinking it up.

Yes

We could really do 3 to 4 years on the bottom getting flogged.

Bottoming out worked well for us 2013/14 it’s probably the worst thing we could do

Just improve the list through

Trading
Drafting
Free Agency

We did it at the end of of 2019 and it worked

We need to do it again

Trade 2
Take two free agents
Draft 3
Rookie 1 or 2

That’s 8 or 9 new players

Out with 6 delistings and a couple traded.

New coach?
Doesn’t matter as much as new personnel

Delist or trade
- butler: is an objectively bad AFL Player
- Webster: should’ve been delisted 5 years ago.
- Geary: honestly wish the fan base turned on him, what a disgrace of a leader for collecting a pay check, knowing full well he will never play again and is stealing a young players spot.
- Hannerbury: See geary
- Kent: foregone conclusion

Trade if possible
- billings: overvalued by the market

Keep
- bytel: keep if possible for squad depth
- Paton: keep, bad year but coming off a serious injury
- long: see Bytel
- the rest

the last couple of games has exposed a serious flaw in recruitment- we have few elite kicks - players that will take that risk to break the defensive structure facing them. So we kick wide to the pocket and close the ground around the ball carrier, rather than making the opposition defend the entire ground. Defenders who can take that kick are what we need, Wilkie can as can Highmore who for some reason is on the outer. The others have lost any confidence in their ability and resort to the sideways or backwards options, thus we are always turning the ball over in our defensive half. The midfield is little better- seem unable to kick to the advantage of the forwards.
I give the younger players some lee-way here. Learning to take pace off the ball when kicking at full pace can be learnt, no excuse for Jones or Billings tho. The biggest myth in Saintdom- Billings is an elite kick!
So- I would put it on the coaches- we have the rest of the season to do something about this. At present those in the mix for de-listing: Geary, Long, Billings, Butler, Webster

The best trade we can make is Bucks for Ratts.

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Why don't you like Bucks? he is a very articulate and strategic coach. You just don't like him because you see him as a COLLINGFILTH person.

Buckley is fully into vaudeville now. Collingwood sacked him. He is a failed coach. Soon fox will realise he can't sing or dance either. One of the best players in recent times has called him out as a racist homophobe. No one in their right mind would nominate him as our coach. Imagine the Pride game and indigenous round.

bugger me, before the bye this place was wanking over our depth. tossing (and turning over) who could break into the immovable force that was our starting 22. frothing that opportunities would only come with injuries. rah rah rah.
now we're starting all over?
we're playing with no heart, no confidence, so skills and endeavour look atrociuos right now. but bugger me this place would turn from a princess over a fart.
