Re: Ratts gets 2 year extension - email from President
Well, the new CEO himself said we wern't a top-four side.
Then what the hell has everyone been doing down there for ten years?
True, the team is NOT as good as the 1997 or 2004 or 2009 sides.
But NO team in the comp is as good as the best sides from those eras.
We should be better than we are. Especially after being 8-3.
We MIGHT sneak into the eight. In which case, conmgratulations Ratts, you've done well.
Or we MIGHT collapse and end another season in ignominy.
In which case it might be a good idea to consider a change of ... oh, hang on, we can't do anything because we've already re-signed the coach.

SL was big on balancing the list profile, which we have done. I reckon we have a good balance of youth and experience and an even list. Just missing a couple of elites. If you added a petracca and Oliver to our side and had a good run with injuries, we would be in the mix.

We’d be over the salary cap

Whilst true, it's an indication of how far away we are or what player type we need to add- 2 X high impact mids.
Anyway , I am at the stadium, so have my rose coloured glasses on

If you want to see the beer goggles at work, read the match day thread during and after a night game.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 7:46pmI was like that at the SCG Crossy. Trust me, the beer goggles work much better.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Ok so now we are 1-2 elites off being in the mix to challenge Vs 7-12Crossy66 wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 7:15pm SL was big on balancing the list profile, which we have done. The only good thing Finnis has done for us was to bring us back to Moorabbin.
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Not great to watch tonight, lots of mistakes, poor decisions, and an undermanned backline. But I think we have the makings of a good team.Teflon wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 8:15pmOk so now we are 1-2 elites off being in the mix to challenge Vs 7-12Crossy66 wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 7:15pm SL was big on balancing the list profile, which we have done. Was that third quarter as bad as we have ever been?

Re: Ratts gets 2 year extension - email from President
Saw this on BF sums it up
Anyone who tries to convince us coaching is not the problem is deluded.. Yes, our midfield is not top 4, but we at least should look like we know what we are doing, we can only score if
1. Hope Kings/Higgins play a blinder and suddenly mark everything/ kick straight.
2. We rely on Ryder to win taps at centre clearances.
3. Pressure the opposition into mistakes
Other than that, there’s absolutely no systems/cohesion on how we play..

The presser
'missed opportunity.." no one asked when's the last time you were able to get the team to grasp one? And follow up by asking are you a poor coach?
The message to members is now a laundry list of what went wrong and ineptitude. Well we were watching, we know. What might be nice is why and what are you going to do about it. s*** performance is getting a bit boring don't you think. As is the hand wringing and looks of befuddlement.
Consider changing the team? Is that an idea?

Devoid of answers
Yes we’ve got some dud players but they all just don’t turn off at the same time
Something really wrong with our system
How many times I watched poor transition, over handballing , running themselves into pressure to then turn it over
Just no system players look lost
Tony74 said Rath has too much say
Is that because Brett doesn’t really have any answers??
And we rush to sign him????
Bewildered

Re: Ratts gets 2 year extension - email from President
So we re-sign Ratten, but as we then went on a 3 game losing streak the club does not announce it.
We finally win, and so then a big announcement on a 2 year extension that we all knew had been agreed to.
Then we play Freo, and that just spells our again that under Ratten that our only game plan is to try and apply pressure....but are then pretty well clueless when we win it re transition, or forward entries.
Against good teams and or teams that are up and about our one dimensional gameplan gets exposed. It is very hard to out pressurea team for 100% of the game.
Against Free early on our mids were on top, but poor ball movement saw the well organised Freo able to negate our dominance. And then they got on top with better transition and forward entries and the game was then blown.
Ratts may be a good "people manager"", but tactically seems to be bereft. He may make the occasional good match day move, but good teams are well disciplined with several game plans so that they can just react without thinking, and adjust as per the dynamics of the game. This stop and prop nonsense that we roll out most weeks is just football suicide.
So we have Rats for another two years of ""no game plan"" football.
