Re: The coach, walking things back....a bit.
Anger as a motivation tool may provide a small sugar hit to get a performance improvement however it is rarely sustainable.
Those stinging words by Lyon may avert a disastrous loss this weekend however I’d need to see a much larger sample size of sustained performance well beyond this weekend to change my mind that this list isn’t going to take us far.

Re: The coach, walking things back....a bit.
I got no walking things back from that all
What I got was an honest appraisal that if we don’t stop stumbling and fumbling we won’t and don’t deserve to play finals
I also got ownership from the senior coach that the narrative around the saints has been directly impacted by his messaging
He owns that - no problem
I’m almost disappointed we are not playing Melbourne this week
I expect a response
The week later is where I watch with interest
Can they sustain it
That said who really cares ? I mean the list is middling ….does it matter ?

The thing you have to remember is it’s all about exploration, without exploration you can’t explore.Teflon wrote: ↑Fri 21 Jul 2023 3:02pm I got no walking things back from that all

Burke N Wills were hacks by comparison when it comes to exploration.

I think a couple of posters didn't learn much in their English Comprehension classes by the looks of it.

I cringe every time someone uses the phrase “sample size” in these contexts.

I think you're projecting.
There is nothing in that presser suggesting that Lyon is "walking things back", unless we have a completely different interpretation of what "walking things back" means.
You might want to give examples of what Ross says that you could construe as "walking things back".

"Yeah, just a walking
Just a walking
Uh, just a walking
Now, if you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog"
Com on com on,

Thanks for the feedback, I try to keep the words to around 4 letters but let me know if that is still too challenging for you and I'll prepare a Little Golden Book translation for you with pictures. The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Sat 22 Jul 2023 6:58pmYou use a lot of words to say nothing.Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 21 Jul 2023 1:56pm Anger as a motivation tool may provide a small sugar hit to get a performance improvement however it is rarely sustainable.

As mentioned by G Train, the statement is nonsensical.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Sat 22 Jul 2023 7:16pmParticularly from someone who knows nothing of statistical mathematics.

The sample size refers to a subset of the entire population used in a broader census. Instead, people should say that they are searching for more occurrences of X, as this has no connection to the sample size.
It is crucial for everyone to grasp the fundamentals of basic statistics for their own benefit.

You …want desperately to be seen as intelligent
It’s coming off as insecure….
I’ve seen a big enough sample size to comment
“Yeah….nah””

What language is this “walking things back”?
Seems to come from the same lexicon as learnings, calling out, reaching out and escalating matters!
Wank talk, or I’m just an out of touch boomer!

And instead of thinking of todays competition between two football teams as a “game”, try and think of it as an “audit”.
