St Kilda

Perhaps it is no surprise that St Kilda became a dominant defensive side upon Ross Lyon’s return.
Last year the Saints conceded less points than any other team as a stifling backline built around All-Australian Callum Wilkie strangled opposition. Wilkie starred with help from Dougal Howard, Josh Battle and a regenerated Zaine Cordy. Jack Sinclair and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera are both already excellent running defenders and Riley Bonner should add to the mix.
Ross’ problems are at the other end and finding a way to score more. The question all coaches ponder is whether they have to give up some of the stinginess in order to open up more in attack.
Key stat: The Saints conceded just 71.6 points per game last year, their best mark (outside of 2020) since 2009 when they let in 64.1. Last year was the first time the Saints had the best defence in the league since 2010.
