Sounds good to me, 180cm is a little on the short side though. Should fit our needs for an inside mid though.

Lack of key defenders is a worry for sure, but there aren't many teams we can't match up on at present. Will need to trade or draft a ready made backman to replace Max when he retires.

Steven wins Geelong Falcons best and fairest

Michael Auciello

30Oct07

LORNE midfielder Jack Steven has won the Geelong Falcons' best and fairest award for 2007.

The 17-year-old finished ahead of Andrew Scott and Jaxson Barham, who will be drafted by Collingwood under the father-son rule at next month's national draft.

Steven played 15 games for the Falcons this season, averaging 20 possessions a game and kicking 17 goals.

He played for Vic Country in the Under-18 national championships in July and when the Falcons' season ended in the first week of the TAC Cup finals, went back to the Colac league and kicked four goals in Lorne's grand final win.

Falcons' regional manager Michael Turner said Steven had given himself every chance of being drafted this season, despite being bottom-aged and able to play in TAC Cup again next season.

``He had a great year. All AFL clubs would be aware he won our best and fairest, so interest is growing,'' Turner said.

``Our boys going to the draft are pretty strong chances. We're hoping Jack gets drafted, he's not a certainty, I'd say he'd be about a 60-40 chance.''

Bottom aged and available to play TAC again next season, sounds good to me as he possibly would have gone higher next season so hopefully we can fast track his development. Sounds like he should be ready to go in 2009 / 2010, hopefully a very good piece of speculative midfield insurance.

jack stevens is a great pick B&F at 17 against bigger bodied 18 year olds shows skill.

possibly a top 10 next year he wouldve been.

Again you dont know much about next years draft....

There would be at least five players already in next years draft that would walk into this years top 10.

He still may grow a bit more though and he is taller than Joey

Mmmm... yeah, bring on Natanui and Rich. Would have gone top 10 in this years draft, even being too young to be drafted.

Played 15 games and was in the best 10 times, not too bad for a bottom age recruit IMO

Just curious how this fella wins the B&F against Lachie Henderson, who didnt finish in their Top 3, yet goes at #8 in the draft?

Do the topliners miss games during the year for camps or similar??

Seems like a relatively good pick possibly could of got him with pick 57 and Gehrig at 70 but then again he may not have been there.

At 180cm he's not a quick strong power midfielder in the Chris Judd prototype but from all reports addresses our perceived weakness of lack of legspeed. To win the B & F for Geelong as a bottom aged player is a brilliant effort not to mention he did in 15 games which meant he probably missed a game or two and still won.

As a young bottom-aged draftee if he wasn't drafted he'd have the potential to go much higher with a big year next year or potentially slip off the radar if he has a poor year. So, im hoping he has still has a lot of development which had he not been drafted may have seen him go top 15-20 but instead now that he is drafted may see some good development in the next few years.
