No arguments from anyone on a saints board - I mean stuff Judd BUT the comparison is pretty obvious to make - same injury (yes question of severity but I doubt that watching Judd hobble round last year anyone would say his injury that required surgery wasnt at least significant?) and same surgeon to relieve same abductor problems?.....cant help comparisons on that front.

As for dizzy heights - have we honestly got them yet?

Just a question Im sure to be derided for...

If we're comparing dizzying heights to Judd's form; Luke has a long way to go and he knows it.

If they can both be at equal fitness and injury concern levels I'm sure Luke Ball will be comparable to Judd.

Fingers crossed.

compairing judd with ball is pointless lets say for argument sake we took judd and wescoast took bally first off the bat Bally would of had the best training facilities in the country he would of had the best ruckman tapping it down to him and he would of played every second game on the lush grass of subi oval then you would have judd having to share a 15yearold tackle bag with 3 other players he would of had to fight hard to get to the ball after blake or ackland lost the ruck and then playing almost every game on domes cooncret slab ! you gotta wonder what dizzy heights bally could of reached if his fortune was differant ?

This is the same train of thought I've had over peoples complaints about us taking Ball over Judd, we just don't have the facilities or staff they do hell it'd be embarassing to compare them.

Luke ball had every right to be taken ahead of Judd

Look at Joel Selwood in 2007, then add a 2.83 20m sprint (by far and away one of the best you will see from a midfielder) and goal kicking ability and you had an injury free Luke Ball.

J. Brown had the same problem with his groin on 2005 and he recovered just fine from it.

Also, don't believe everything you read about Judd

he beat the time trial of the current group of players, not the all time blues record. He hasn't even done a sprint or any type of agility or ball work yet.

Judd knew his body wasn't holding up given how much punishment he was getting (played just about a loan hand as the inside midfielder from 2005- mid 2007) and was taking longer and longer to recover after each game, add to that his lack of passion for the game and you would have to say he wouldn't look to play on after his current $7m contract expires and he is 29 years old.

and he is going bold

when you break down Judd's actual game you find that he is a clearance winning inside mid who kicks goals, plenty of grunts are able to win as many clearances and plenty of flankers are able to kick a goal per game. He was good but over rated by the media.

Look at who the eagles recruited to replace him, Masten is a Simon Black type of clearance machine, Ebert is a Bartel style (actually freakishly similar game style) inside mid and Selwood is a Daniel Harris battering ram inside mid. In 3 years when they are all up and going Judd won't be missed.

hehehe its funny how all of a sudden judd is overrated in the eyes of WC supporters yet had he stayed he would of been the greatest player of all time  hehehe
personally i think its gunna be funny watching judd get crunched every time he go's near the ball cause caltoon wont block for him and they definatly wont win the hitouts to him . the highlights of the year is gunna be Judd Vs WC the likes of stengline belting him at every opertunity and embly giving him heaps ....

Don't believe anything you hear about Judd. When did Carlton ever tell the truth ... salary caps etc.

Benefit of the doubt, I'm not going to call sour grapes (plenty of others ready to do that :) )

Breaking down Judds actual game, you're not necessarily wrong, trouble being you could make the same case about anyone... but if you need 2 or 3 players to replace one's skills, that's a very good/great player. Inside mid who runs away from the pack with the ball and kicks a goal? Perhaps you've been spoiled by the abilities of Judd, Kerr and Cousins, but Priddis handballing it out to a runner is not going to prove as effective as Judd doing the whole thing himself 2 or 3 times during the game, plus clearing it out to others.

On the recruiting, I've got a lot of respect for not only the Eagles recruiting ability, but their development ability which IMO has been the lynchpin to their recruiting success. If anyone is going to turn all 3 draftees into quality AFLers, it'll be the Eagles, but the reality is this:

West Coast fans are going to miss and reminisce about their '05 and '06 midfield for years to come. When next we see one as good, it's likely somewhere else making someone else a premiership favourite. See Brisbane's dynasty for further example.

Or perhaps supporters whilst players are at their club?

The media does overate players. Judd is one of them.

He's a gun. A superstar even.

But it does need to be remembered that he was part of a midfield including Ben Cousins, Dean Cox, Kerr, Embley, Fletcher and Braun.

The media does overate Judd. So did West Coast supporters whilst he was there. And now Carlton fans do.

He's a gun and I'd love to have him - but as yet he's shown he can't perform whilst injured, and is yet to prove he can win his club games whilst Kerr, Cousins and co. aren't playing.

Therefore, he's overrated.

Even if you are being overly bias, I agree with you, you guys killed it on draft day and I am scared of your midfield in the next few years, especially because Kerr will be at his peak and Cox and Seaby should still be around, Priddis, Rosa and Hurn are coming along very nicely too... West Coast are inches away from being a contender IMO...

A bit like OWTS said..don't believe all the spin that the Blues are pumping out in order to drive up memberships/sponsorships etc...

As I have mentioned previously my brother in law had the same operatation years ago as an elite footballer...

I had him stay with me over New Years and on chewing the fat asked him about the operation again.

He said that they take your leg...basically bend it out at right angles (which it is not how it is meant to go!!!- not even for female gymnasts), so that they can get at things for the surgery and this causes massive bruising etc.

So the operation is not one which is just simply a simple snip and keyhole surgery. More like being put on a torture rack!!

He said that for 5 weeks he was very VERY sore and it takes some time for things to recover....and was sceptical about what was being said about Judd.

So no surprise to get back and read this string.

Bally should be better,,,,but give him some time.

I have to disagree. He is the best in the comp. yes he finished poorly because of an injury but last year was heading for his best ever. Look at his first 8 games. Yes he hasnt proven himself without the other players but there is a simple reason for that. He hasnt played. If he was our player we would say he is the greatest player in the history of the game. Look how we seem to worship Sam Gilbert. B

But as always most people have those rose coloured glasses on.

I reckon Jonathon Brown's the best in the comp (fully fit) and would command more on the open market than Judd.

Well Judd would be second best and you could argue best but I think they are clearly the best 2. Judd is a bit more consistant but Brown is bigger and may have more influence in a game.

Agreed on that - probably daylight between those 2 and the next......
