What did you think of the booing?

Post: # 578837Post Ice Wolf »

What did you think of the booing today when the players decided to ice the clock with 5 mins left?

I thought that it was the right thing to do they still had time to bury Melbourne further, had no chance of losing and should of attacked, I was glad when some of them got the message and we kicked the goal and everyone cheered.

To play "tempo" footy in the last quarter when ya 13 goals up is just ludricous, stupid and insane. Symptamatic of the mindset that now seems to be drilled into the players it seems. Oh well, didnt matter today, will matter when we actually have some opposition in a tight one.

Boong your own players is NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER acceptable IMHO.

Yes it was frustrating, yes everyone wanted to go for the kill, but theres a line between that and actually booing the team....as I heard many people doing.

Never freaking satisfied some people. You win by a goal and they say it would have been by 5, you win by 10 goals and it should have been 15.

Truly, some people around me today would not have been satisfied unless we'd won 55.00.330 to 00.00.00 and not one Melbourne player got near it all day. Every Melbourne posesssion was meat with a tirade of "pick up your men!!!". Sheesh..newsflash people, no matter how much you dominate, the opposition are still gonna hit a target and kick a goal from time to time

Thats what i meant, i think the booing was because of they started icing the clock. The booing was against the icing not really the players. Melbourne fans were probably booing too nobody likes to see that s*** ever.

Also what was with the crap attendance today, where were all the saints fans who didn't turn up? I thought the Melbourne numbers were pretty good.

Would have to be our worst attendance v a melbourne based team in years wouldnt it? But with the startling exciting footy we play, plus the way the demons are travelling, its not surprising. Anyway, I was there.

Lots of holes in the reserved seating areas from what I could see....at least 4 just from the row in front of me

I didn't boo - just groaned and urged them do direct.
No-one wants to see chip-lotto.

We were on top, and had a good chance to go on and get a 100+ result.
We got that far in from by playing direct footy.

So why go defensive when everything is in our favour ?

I got there halfway through the 2nd quarter (got held up at archery by a mate buying new gear), The 2 seats next to me were empty (but they always are i think they are unsold) but the people who usually sit in front of us weren't there.

So even if you were at the Gabba and witnessed our gutless effort you wouldn't consider it?

I shudder every time a StKilda player holds the ball above his head to indicate lockdown.
It guarantees an opposition goal everytime.

The booing was for the fact that we were 13 goals ahead and the game plan turned to holding the ball up and playing that ridiculous chip backwards, sideways, anything but direct where you scored the majority of the goals for the day.

Bloody un-inspiring football.

We were in control and we should have kept playing attack football.

Armo will be disciplined surely, as it was he who looked to kick direct and pump it inside 50.

I thought the booes were good. Melbourne have been beaten by a hundred points a couple of times this season so they were no threat of kicking a few late one. Kick them when they are down for percentage and so it stays in their minds when we play them next.

It frustrated me too a bit at the time, but you'd all be complaining if we'd gone hell for leather, caused some turnovers cos we were buggered, and gave up 2-3 more junk time goals

On Fox just now,

BJ held the ball above his head with 4.31 to go of actual game time - from mine that is waaaaaay too early when you're 70 odd points up.

Even a close game, way too early.

As the commentary said, why on earth would we do it?

Just to bring us fans back down for the last few minutes maybe?

booing your team for playing percentage footy when 12 goals up was very childish, whether we liked it or not, whether it was necessary/right/whatever or not. I think it was in essence a reflection on the dissapointment in the season as much as anything... but nobody will accuse us of having won with grace today, on field or off.

Well warranted.

I dont like the fact the change their attacking game when they are 1, 50 or 100 points up.

They were NOT booing the players.

They were booing the coach and his game plan.

They were booing because they have seen this stupid defensive game plan lose so many matches in the past year and a half.

They were booing because they know that no matter how much Melbourne was beaten by, they will be staying home on September weekends again.

They were booing a coach who is SOFT in the head.

I thought the booing was fully justified, and an important message to deliver -- naybe more to the coaches than the players.
In the state we're in, we should be desperate to make up every percentage point available, and to demonstrate with every last shred of energy that we can crush a team, whoever they are.
Cruising, at any stage of a game, does not become us right now.

Yeah the newer guys seemed to get it. Im not sure who's idea the tempo shite was but the second i saw the signal i noticed that the ground staff had started to take their positions on the boundary. Maybe they should be barred from entering the arena till there is only a minute left on the clock and not 5 might solve the problem as the players wont know the end is coming.

i didn't think ot mattered at all, melbourne flooded numbers back (damage control) and we had conceded 4 goals in the quater after conceding only 3 for the game before that.

slowing it down sisn't matter and we still won the quater and won by a huge margin.

people really do look for things to complain about these days methinks
