What has happened to Leigh Fisher

Post: # 620631Post marksnsparks »

Thought he had a couple of good season in 06 and 07. I know he was off the boil this season (not on his own there!) but he seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.

Anyone know where he's at?

I reckon his 'lack of pace' has been exacerbated by the current game styles being played by most teams.

He was never overly quick and I wonder if he didn't lose half a yard of pace through his shocking hamstring injuries?

An honest trier who did the jobs his coaches asked of him to teh best of his ability.

Lost confidence......pace/skill issues...lost his HB spot to Goddard/Gwilt/Gilbo.....and his tagging spot to Dempster/Mini

He was part of our best back six in 2004 along with Matt Maguire, Luke Penny and Aussie Jones. That backline was equal to any at the time and good enough to win a flag. However, three of them were injured during the year and never played together again after round 9 when Fisher did his hamstring and we beat West Coast by 101 points.

Leigh Fisher was a contest winner. He could mark overhead, playing taller than his height, kick both feet and run in a straight line. It was no coincidence that he played in a lot of winning sides. Just what lasting effect the hamstring injuries had on him I don't know. What I do know is that Ross Lyon tried to turn him into a mid fielder/tagger. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

His confidence fell and now looks unlikely to get a game. He leaves Dempster for dead in every aspect of the game.

Fisher is best suited to playing an attacking inside role in defence - helping his team mates out, taking big grabs in contests, hitting the opposition hard and winning the contested footy. He's not suited to chasing an opponent around all day in the midfield and coralling the opposition.

Tearing the hamstring from the bone a couple of times will wreck your career every time.

He was excellent in '06 and had a solid season last year. The injuries have caused him to lose a bit of pace, but he's still capable.

Good player, but now too slow for a slowish team -that's the story

Hamstrings, hamstrings, hamstrings

Has lost pace and penetration on his kicking, all due to chronic hamstring injuries.

IMO he WAS one of our best by foot, especailly into the forwards on the lead.

The emergence of a whole breed of forwards who rely on brilliance, pace and instinct has put pressure on Leigh Fisher - he bulked up whilst his match ups were not interested in "bulking up" to contest the ball - they relied on their talent, their deftness, their agility and their speed.

I would be looking at Leigh to lose some of his bulk and retain his undoubted abilities, including adding a yard in pace.

Unfortunately not all teams have a Stephen Milne to stand!

Delist. Gutted we couldn't get the deal with the Swans done last year.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

should go back to the back pocket type player.... not a midfielder, nor a run with player... he was a solid defender with good run and courage.. was also good as 3rd man up... not all non key position players must be able to play through the middle...
