It was in 1995, rally at Moorabbin was in June (or July) 95 then they had a legends match later in the years (Oct ??) and got about 12k under lights on a Friday night.True Blue Sainter wrote:Early 1990's from memory? Rainy sunday rally at Moorabbin, after a bad loss I think. They were handing out tins that day and we certainly took one.
Then later in the year they had a Saints Legend vs Sinners (from other clubs) match.
I think the Sinners led all night and then a few late snaps from Silvio Foschini got the Legends over the line. Cowboy was named to play but never did.
Good crowd in, great night. Robbie Muir decking about three blokes on the members wing was an absolute highlight.
Then later in the year they had a Saints Legend vs Sinners (from other clubs) match.
I think the Sinners led all night and then a few late snaps from Silvio Foschini got the Legends over the line. Cowboy was named to play but never did.
Good crowd in, great night. Robbie Muir decking about three blokes on the members wing was an absolute highlight.

We were quite prolific with the shirts. Does anyone remember the "Night Premiers" T-shirt. We sold over 500 of those with all money going to the club.

It was 1995 because Trevor Barker was due to play but withdrew due to illness. It was before his illness became public, and none of us knew what he was going through.
I have several happy memories of the night: first of all it was freezing cold, but so many people queued up to get into the ground the line at the Perry Street entrance went back towards the car park.
And Dermot Brereton and Maurie Plant were supposed to provide a live commentary, but half the time they had to turn off the commentary to the public as obviously there were some risque comments being made, so all we'd get is Dermie giggling at whatever Maurie just said.
But it was a night to be proud of being a Saint supporter, as we tried to save our club.
ps The only time I went to a night game at Moorabbin.

Seems a lifetime away now.
I was a member od the Keep the Saints at Moorabbin.
Still got the shirt and the keyring.
Had a couple of SOS tins.
Don't remember much about the match as I had volunteered to sell pies = never been busier.
I remember one of the rallies at Moorabbin, on the oval.
Yabby spoke.
And a few of the BIG boys from the Doggies cheersquad turned up to lend their support - nice touch.
