So what happens to the Number 35 Jumper???

Post: # 673790Post St. Luke »

I know that Harvs being such a modest and purely humble player would gladly keep it in circulation...but??? Realistically, what will happen to it? Burkie threw his in the mix pretty fast after retirement (being the last player Harvs surpassed in total games played)...I'm curious.

Harvs leaves behind an impression just about near impossible to replicate in modern day footy. Certainly harder to copy coming from a mid-fielder.

It'd be nice seeing it live on to be honest! When I see the numbers running through doing something special it brings back alot of memories of past players. I'll miss Harvs dearly next season! :(

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

and will he come back to present it?

I ran into Brett Voss first game this season and he had been down to the rooms to present Schneider with the jumper- nice touch I thought

we also have # 4 and # 9 free-- I can see those being handed on before I could see #35- in fact I think I;d prefer to see it given a year as #4 has been.

Give it a rest until someone leaps out and demans it through attitude and performance on and off the field

When Stewie and Burkie retired, we had a raft of classy young kids coming through to pass the jumpers on to. At the moment..sorry buty we have none showing the sort of promise X and Kosi did back then

#4 and especially #35 are significant numbers at St K...we saw no-one fit to wear #4 in 2008 and to be honest I dont think anything has changed 12 months down the track.

In 1996 we gave #4 to Joel Smith afer Plugger left, so if and only if, our first round pick showed exceptional promise pre-season..perhaps Id consider it..but he'd have to be one out of the box

Give #9 to Benny by all means though :-)

Plugger left in very different circumstances to Burke, Loewe, Harvey and Thompson.

As I recall, Smith wore No. 4 from the second pre-season game in 1995 not 1996. Allegedly they didn't have one that fitted him for the first game.

Winmar's number 7 was also passed on without any ceremony to young Lenny Hayes.

Two good reasons for that.

1. He was with the Bulldogs
2. He probably didn't feel like heading down to a club that had sacked him a couple of months previously and wasn't in a mood to chat to the new coach Tim Watson who had done the sacking.

Yep sorry..1995 it was, and that game was the now-famous last gasp win over Carlton. Joel kicked the wining goal, prompting Bruce McAvaney to claim "thats not the first time a No 4 has won a game for St Kilda"

Yep, rest 35 for a while - then give it to someone who is worthy

4 and 9 might be given out next year

Hold your ground
