Blow up doll spoils relationship with umpires.
If you thought umpires weren't precious.

A BLOW-UP doll took the wind out of St Kilda's relationship with the umpires during Grant Thomas's reign.
With the perception of umpires making headlines again, Thomas yesterday laughed when recounting a "Kris Kringle" gift that went wrong.
Thomas said he was told by the AFL to remove the gift, a blow-up doll dressed like a referee or umpire, from the club's football offices.
The former Saints coach was informed by the league that the umpires had an issue with the doll.

.
"Jeff said, 'There is one thing that came up . . . the umpires are very upset and disappointed that you have a blow-up umpire in your office.
.
.
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said last night he remembered the issue.
"It was not a big issue at all for us," Anderson said.
They are precious pricks that have screwed us over because they don't like us. They wonder why we don't like them, because they screw us over.
I just wish Grant would STFU on gameday. Everytime he brings something up it's in the paper the morning of our games.

Although I am sick and tired of Grant Thomas and all the other SEN twats crapping on about umpires for two weeks non stop I can't see how this story makes him a liability towards us Bigred. If you honestly believe that talking about an unimportant incident from 4 years ago will have any bearing on how tonights game is umpired you need to get a grip on life.
I am sick to death of all the umpire bashing and talking everyday. If eveyone shut up about it we wouldn't notice the umpires.
Everyone is saying that the umpires are bigger than the game. Why is that???? Maybe because the media has spoken about them more than anything else.
Everyone should grow up move on and just love footy atm because the saints are on top. Who cares about the umps.

Every week we are getting a small article, such as this one, from the "Thomas era".
I just dont think its the graceful thing to do. He is no longer associated with the club, nothing further than a past player and coach. That's great. Take a look at Stan Alves. He will talk St.Kilda when he deems it appropriate, on any issue. Seems to me that Thommo just cant help but dredge up this stuff.
I dont think its fair on the current players, and especially the current coaching staff. Absolutely no relevance to them.
Thomas can bleat all day about the current state of the umpires, for the greater part of it, I agree with him. I just dont appreciate the constant association with St.Kilda.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

I just wan't to know why The Giesch didn't do anything about it.
If he talks to the umpires and they say, "we have a problem with St.Kilda because of a blow up doll."
Giesch should be on them like white on rice. It's not their job to have allegiances or grievances with a club. It's their job to umpire in as neutral a way as possible. To be seen above petty squabbling.
If it was me running the umpires, I would have given any of them admitting this a written warning. Any issues they have should be left on the the other side of the white line. They have an issue bring it up with the AFL hierarchy and let them deal with it.
I know umpires are human and that they will make mistakes. I just wan't to know those mistakes are genuine and not made via bias.

The whole issue about umpires seems they have been sensitised to 'criticism'.
We know its a difficult job of split second calls . They know that too.
The issue that irks me is the 'bias' and the publicising of anti umpiring comments. All the publicity only adds to the them and us attitude.
If there are issues re decisions there are mechanisms like taking it up in private with Gieshen , and he can then consider talking to umpires about interpretations etc.
Another thing , umpires should not be the 'stars' of the game . They should be 'invisible' if they are doing areasonable job. Let the game flow rather than asset their 'authority' by pulling up a game.
Touching umpires has siralled out of control , come on we dont need fines
just dont do it and try harder to keep out of each others way.
A good umpire exercised common sense and leaves his ego at home.

I'm sure that somehow the posters on here will link it back to how 'evil' Grant Thomas is.
But in all seriousness, who cares? I don't mind seeing this stuff in the paper anymore. Sometimes it's interesting, other times it's not.
However, it's not damaging us. Not in any way. We're 4-0 and doing well under RL.
On another note, GT's blog is - like it or lump it - one of the only decent ones on the net because he calls it how he sees it.
If you don't like it, grow a pair, get over it and enjoy how we're playing.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
